Twenty people are currently being treated at the Olenguruone sub-county hospital in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County after eating meat from a dead cow that was possibly contaminated with East Coast virus.
Sadly, an 11-year-old boy has died and seven other children are among the 20 patients there.
Locals reportedly feasted on the carcass after a veterinary official pointed them in the whereabouts of the cow’s grave.
Joshua Langat, a village elder said that the boy is rumored to have consumed soup made from the carcass’s meat.
The body of the deceased has been moved to the said facility’s morgue.
A nurse at the facility who requested for anonymity said the other victims, including the children, are in stable condition even as more are still being rushed there.
