LSK challenges Uhuru’s decision to move KMC to Ministry of Defence

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has moved to court challenging President Uhuri Kenyatta’s decision to move the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) under the Ministry of Defence.

LSK filed the challenge through lawyer Hosea Omanwa, who termed the move as “irregular and violated the constitutional provisions of the law.”

“The effect is KMC which is a creature by Parliament is a body corporate with its own functions and mandate that cannot be transferred or interfered with,” the lawyer says.

He further argues in suit papers that KMC is established under Cap 383 of the constitution and that its powers and functions are absolute.

On September 9 this year, Agriculture CS Peter Munya directed the transfer saying President Uhuru Kenyatta had ordered so.

“Following the transfer of ministerial responsibility of the Kenya Meat Commission to the Ministry of Defence by the President, you are directed to facilitate a seamless transfer of KMC to the ministry of defence,” he said in a memo dated September 7.

The memo was sent to the PS, state department for livestock and copied to the KMC Managing Commissioner James ole Seriani.

Munya directed officials there to ensure they coordinate the exercise with the National Treasury and transfer the associated budgets at the next scheduled supplementary budget.

Oscar Sudi finally released, barred from addressing public rallies

Controversial Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi was on Friday, September 18 released from police custody after being detained for close to a week.

A Nakuru Court granted the MP Sh500,000 with an alternative of Sh1 million bond.

The MP was also directed not to address public rallies especially in a manner akin to the incitement charges against him.

The ruling was delivered by High Court Judge Mumbi Ngugi who heard the MP’s appeal to a prior ruling.

A Magistrate’s Court had ruled in favour of an application to have the legislator detained for seven more days starting September 16, 2020 to allow for further investigations.

Justice Ngugi, however, found that there were no compelling reasons to deny the Kapsaret member his freedom.

Sudi’s controversial remarks

The MP surrendered to the police at the beginning of the week after a night of drama at his Eldoret home.

He has been charged with incitement after making unprintable remarks against President Uhuru Kenyatta and former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

Woman surprisingly receives cash after praying to God for help

A woman identified as Maine21089868 recently shared some pretty good news on Twitter.

According to the young woman, she had received KSh 4,000 from a stranger after she had prayed to God for some help with money since she was broke.

“So yesterday I prayed to God asking for money because I am so broke, after an hour someone sent KSh 4,000 in my account written ‘TASK’, up to now I do not know who sent it,” wrote the lady.

According to the lady, she did not ask anyone for money and is convinced that miracles do exist.

“I did not ask anyone for money. Miracles still exist. Thank you, Jesu. #Level1Lockdown #HambaMzimbaSalaNtliziyo” she wrote.

In her post, she also included a screenshot of the funds that were miraculously deposited into her account only an hour after she asked God for it.

Twitter users shared mixed reactions to her post, wondering how they could achieve similar luck or “blessings”.

@ZAMONEYM9 said:

“I am praying for a share in your KSh 4,000.”

@2liKhumalo said:

“What are the exact words you used in your prayer?”

@BrianVukile joked:

“These miracles only happen to females.”
