VIDEO: Uhuru checks into Hotel Nacionale in Havana, Cuba

Published

on

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Havana, Cuba, on Wednesday evening for a historic State visit that his handlers say will be dominated by bilateral talks on health, trade and heritage.

Kenyatta touched down on a commercial flight at 5:01 pm Havana (0001 am Thursday, Nairobi time) and was met by senior Cuban presidency and foreign ministry officials.

President Kenyatta’s visit is expected to boost his efforts in achieving the ‘Big Four’ agenda, especially in the provision of universal healthcare, where Cuba is a key global player.

Cuba has a doctor-patient ratio of 1:150 compared to Kenya’s 1:16,000.

“The President will explore how to build Kenyan capacity, increase the number of medical specialists in orthopaedic surgery, oncology, neurology, and trauma management; and collaborate in research on cancer and diabetes drugs, and eradication of malaria,” State House Spokesperson, Manoah Esipisu said ahead of the President’s departure.

On Wednesday, Mr Esipisu said: “A debate on how and whether we can have access to Cuban health capacity, including doctors, is a healthy one. The government has an agenda and has to speak to partners that can help meet that agenda.”

Cuba has engineered a system based on accessibility and preventive medicine and regards health as a basic human right.

Much of Cuba’s success in these areas is due to its primary healthcare system, which is one of the most proactive in the world.

Cuba’s population of 11.27 million has 452 out-patient clinics and the government gives priority to disease prevention, universal coverage and access to treatment.

Health services are offered for free and include check-ups, surgery, medical dispensing and doctor visitations.

Cuba’s relationship with African liberation movements began as early as the 1960s and the Cuban revolution was a great inspiration particularly during the struggle against colonialism and apartheid.

President Kenyatta will hold talks with Cuban President Raul Castro on Thursday. He will also open Kenya’s embassy building in Havana.

Amb. Anthony Mwaniki Muchiri, Kenya’s top envoy in Cuba, said the opening of the Kenyan mission to the Caribbean would cement relations between the two countries.

He said after liberation, Cuba helped many African nations build and strengthen their health sectors. “A lot was done by Cuba in terms of establishing Africa’s health sector, giving African students scholarships to study in their tertiary institutions,” he said.

“Kenya has to increase the number of doctors in it’s health centres for it to achieve the universal healthcare goal,” Amb. Muchiri added.

President Kenyatta is accompanied by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cabinet Secretary Amb. Monica Juma, Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Achesa Mohamed and Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr Rashid Amani.

Marya Prude wife to Citizen TV host Willis Raburu has said that she is trying to rediscover herself once again weeks after the loss of her daughter.

The couple, who were expecting their first child, have taken time off after they lost their unborn baby.

Weeks ago Mrs Raburu had questioned God for leaving her when she needed him the most. Well she is making an effort to reconnect with God.

‘I don’t know who you are anymore but I want to embark on a self discovery journey and find you and love you as you deserve coz you only deserve the best.’

Willis Raburu’s wife Marya.

On Wednesday January 8 through Instagram, Prude penned a heart wrenching prayer to God explaining her emotional state.

“EVERYONE IS SO QUICK TO TELL ME ABOUT GOD. WHAT THEY DON’T KNOW IS THAT EVERY WAY I KNEW HIM, HE WAS TESTED AND HE DIDN’T PROVE HIMSELF,” SHE WROTE.

Adding,

“SO AS THEY SAY YOU SHOULD KNOW GOD FOR YOURSELF, I NOW CAN SAY, I DON’T KNOW HIM. AND I DON’T THINK I WANT TO KNOW HIM COZ HE LEFT ME WHEN I NEEDED HIM THE MOST,” MARYA LAMENTED.

A week later, Willis penned a long post to his daughter saying that she is forever etched on his mind and heart.

‘My beautiful daughter, some days are easy some days are so hard.

Today I woke up trying to imagine what it would be like to watch you sleep, ( that’s the only image I have of you) what it be like you hold warm fingers, what a sleepless night would feel like.

What it would be like to go to work tired Koz you kept me up at night, who you would look like now?

what color of your skin? if you would drink as much milk as I did when I was your age. My daughter, you are an angel now, or so they tell me and when I look up to the sky sometimes I cry, sometimes I sometimes I laugh.’

Adding

‘I want you to make so much noise in heaven, or in the multi-verse you are in,I want you to have all your the people who are with you there say “Yeap that’s Willis’ child” I miss you so much.

It’s funny that I have a picture of you but even before I look at it, your face is engrained in my heart, etched in my soul, tattooed in my very essence.

Willis Raburu

My daughter, my sweet lovely beautiful daughter, I’m sorry that you have to see daddy weak and in grief and not the pillar of strength that you and your mother need.

But my daughter, daddy loves you, since He listens to you talk to Him and tell Him, daddy doesn’t understand but daddy needs help. Rest In Palaces, RIP because you are royalty. 👼🏾👸🏾#QueenAdana.‘

Kenyans have called out Betty Kyallo for her unending love for food when shooting her show Weekend with Betty which airs on K24.

For those who might have watched the show, Betty has a tendency of asking if there is food, be it lunch or breakfast before the shoot begins.

In instances where the guest does not cook, they always end up eating out and the fans have noticed that owing to that, Betty is supposedly gaining weight.

One fan wrote

‘Huyu @BettyMKyallo ananona juu ya kukula kula kwa wenyewe.’

To which Betty responded.

Kwani sikulangi kwangu?

Below are some more reactions with some people coming out to defend Betty

@Amosdigitals: Betty tell him you know how to cook. Then invite the niggar to a restaurant near you and buy him a lunch.

Personally, I think people should just let Betty be, akiskia atanona mpaka apasuke, it’s her life.

Student dies in Bahati PCEA dorm fire

Published

on

A Form Three student has died in a dormitory fire at Bahati PCEA Secondary School in Nakuru County.

Education director Lawrence Karuntimi said the girl was pronounced dead on arrival at the county hospital following the incident on Saturday night.

Mr Karuntimi said the cause of the fire was yet to be established.

“The only thing we know is that there was a girl in the dorm, which had been closed. When the fire was put out and the dorm opened, it was found that she fell and was overwhelmed by the smoke. Investigators are gathering more information,” he said.

“The scene was processed today. A team from the public works department will do its assessment tomorrow and [report on whether] the place can be inhabited. They will look at the structure and advise us.”

Earlier, Nakuru North deputy divisional police commander, Mr Francis Mwangi, said the girl was the only one in the dormitory when the fire started.

“The dorm had been locked from outside but the girl was left inside … It is a puzzle we are unravelling,” Mr Mwangi said.

“She inhaled a lot of carbon monoxide and was taken to Bahati district hospital but was referred to Nakuru Level Five Hospital. She had no burns on her body, which means she only inhaled the smoke.”

He noted that the school had enough extinguishers to put off the fire.

The officer said all the other students at the school had been accounted for.

Several were injured while trying to remove their belongings from the building.

Some were taken to the Bahati facility and others to Mediheal Hospital in Nakuru town.

“The other girls who were treated for shocks and pains are stable,” Mr Mwangi said.
