I attempted suicide when I was in class eight: TV host

Published

Sassy Crossover 101 host Grace Ekipara has opened up, revealing that she attempted suicide twice.

Through four short clips on her Instagram page dubbed, Finding hope away from Depression and Suicide, Ekipara disclosed that she was depressed, surrounded by negativity and attempted to end it all by taking pills.

She said she was 14 when she first wanted to take her own life by swallowing a concoction of 18 pills before attempting it again three years later.

As a 17-year-old, the beauty revealed that she took as much as 35 pills at once while in form three because the 18 pills he had taken while in primary school did not work.

I believe that depression has a cure. It’s nothing that cannot be dealt with but suicide is also tied to depression so for us to stop suicide we have to deal with depression. I am talking from experience because, a lot of people don’t know this, but when I was in class eight, I attempted suicide.

I took 18 pills, I was on some antibiotics, I was unwell and at one time I got to a point and said you know what I’m going to take them all the medicine that I had. 18 pills.

Form three again I decided I’m going to do the same and I took 35 pills this time, because 18 didn’t kill me so 35 will, and you know what people did not understand why a 17 year-old would be committing suicide, a 14 year-old would commit suicide,” said Ekipara.

So how did he get here? She narrated that,

“For me, it was because of the continuous negativity that was around me. I grew up as a sickly and people around me thought I was always faking sickness to get out of school, my own parent didn’t believe me so I thought you know what, I’m a burden so how about I just take my own life.

“So I did it and I tried twice but I didn’t die and I remember countless times asking God why didn’t you take me, why didn’t I die and I remember when I woke up and thought why am I awake here in school I thought I was going to wake up in heaven… you know what suicide will take and robe you of your potential, ” she added.

The solution,

I look at my life right now and I say if I had killed myself how many people would have missed out on what God has done in my life? God has blessed me, opened doors for me, given me a platform to minister. I wouldn’t have done this if I had killed myself many years. You see in the grave there are no opportunities…

“Start focussing on what can work now, you have lost things, its ok, pick yourself up from the ground, dust yourself up and start strategizing again. God has given us everything that pertains to life…” She posted

Early this year, the TV host shared how she struggled to be where she is, from lacking food, rent to being in a loveless relationship.

“I get on my knees every time I remember what my story was a few years ago . The days i survived by having a packet of milk and mandazi for supper and then sleept waiting for the next day. The days I went through my phone book a hundred times looking for whom to call just to ask for bus fare to school.

“The times when the month would come to an end and I would sit wondering where rent was going to come from. The years I survived on the same clothes and shoes because I could not afford to buy even a new pair of sandals. Now I break at His goodness.

“I celebrate when I head to the shop to buy more than one packet of milk. Now I rejoice when I can get into a matatu and pay fare then receive change eeiii!!”

Chiki Kuruka sheds light on her breast lift surgery and battling mixed-race assumptions

Published

Bien-Aime Baraza´s long-time girlfriend has opened up on her mixed race, breast lift surgery and trolls.

The UK-bred dance choreographer who was raised in the Queen´s land admitted that living in Kenya was one of the best decisions she ever made.

My uncle, being a war correspondent, lives in Kenya because it is quite a calm country. My two friends who we lived with while in the UK, are half Kenyan and they were coming home. I decided that I´m coming with them and it was literally as simple as that. I came here and I was Like ¨this place rocks. I´m staying. I´m not going.¨ I found Kenya so beautiful and the people are really easy-going.

Unfortunately for her, being mixed race meant to many that she is bougie – something she fights with every damn time.

I also think it is something to do the fact that I’m mixed race as opposed to being black, people think that maybe I’m not so connected with my African side. I fight those two assumptions all the time because I’m from the hood and I’m proud of it. I have chosen to live on this continent, I couldn’t be prouder.

However, for her, Kenya is home.

So many people are trying to leave Africa and go to the United States or Europe, but the beauty is in this continent, the future is on this continent. I definitely think Kenya is the hub of East Africa. It’s just a good place to be.

I definitely think Kenya is the hub of East Africa – Bien Aime´s girlfriend, Chiki Kuruka gushes

Surgery

Further speaking to Pulse in regard to her anticipated breast lift surgery, she added:

I don’t think it’s anyone’s business the decisions that someone else makes regarding their body. I’ve seen the genes in my family and children don’t do us very well. When I look at my aunts and their boobs are by their hips, I just don’t want that to be my story. Not reconstruction surgery, just put me back the way I was before.

Being a wellness instructor, Chiki is a public figure and where there is fame, there is love but so is there a fair share of trolls.

People who say nasty things online will never be brave enough to talk to me face to face – the wellness instructor affirms

Revealing how she is able to deal with the trolls, the beauty opined:

The reality is that people who say nasty things online will never be brave enough to talk to me face to face. And I come at it hard. So I would dare someone to come and say to me face to face something that they’d be brave enough to type. That’s normally the person who you’ll see in every time saying ¨Hi, oh my gosh, I love you guys.¨

As she came to the close of her interview, her last words were:

Mind your mind. When you feel good, you do good. So it’s okay to say ‘I’m not okay’. It’s okay to say ‘I don’t want you in my space’, because the better you are, the better you offer society.

Tedd Josiah, a Kenyan music producer, lost his wife in 2017 has shared on the last moments with his late wife, Reginah Katar.

He shared a photo explaining how his wife wanted something different.

On this day, mama gummy bear (RIP) decided she didn’t want the usual Sanford fries that she used to ask me to drive her to go buy almost every evening.

This Sunday she wanted fish, and she wanted it fresh from a lake, so we had to drive to Naivasha (her choice of lake) and buy some fish and have it made there…”

“Brothers, you see when you decide to have a baby, there’s gonna be cravings, mood swings and emotions your wife can’t even explain.”

Tedd urged married men to take care of their wives now that they are still around.

“At that point u can’t flake!! You got to find some resolve and make it come together, if it’s Sanford fries or fish from the lake!

Go do it! Cause a lot of children suffer cause their mothers were depressed during their pregnancies.”
