This year, the organisers are also inviting Kenyans to visit the US and go on a 10 day cruise, among other activities.

The event coordinator, Cate Kariuki says it will be an opportunity of a lifetime for those Kenyans interested in making the trip.

“We are making arrangements for the visas from the US embassy in Nairobi to enable those who have shown interest travel to the US.” she said.

KACC has been leading the Kenya Diaspora in the US in celebrating their cultural heritage with great pride and enthusiasm.

For the last twelve years, the church has with great passion nurtured and celebrated cultural diversity that is exhibited in the rich Kenya-African culture.

Daniel Ndambuki’s lat performance in the US was in mid 2000s when he accompanied the Reddykyulas trio during one of their tours.

“We are very excited about the upcoming tour,” said MCA Tricky who was flanked by Teacher Wanjiku and Otoyo at the Serena Hotel during the Majuu trip launch last Sunday.

Kenyan marries another man in USA

Published

on

In a trend where Kenyan men are getting married to other men in countries whose laws allow it, a Nakuru man has tied the knot to his American boyfriend.

The two got married in Michigan in the US on Saturday afternoon.

Soon after the event, the two were seen at the Square’s gardens kissing and fondling in public as friends and family members cheered.

Same-sex marriage was legalised in Michigan last June in a landmark US Supreme Court ruling, which struck down states’ bans on gay or lesbian marriages between two people “as long as they love each other”.

According to a family member who spoke to the Daily Nation on condition of anonymity, the Kenyan man met his ‘fiancé’” in Atlanta, Georgia.

However, a Kenyan marriage and family counsellor immediately criticised the wedding.

Pastor Philip Kitoto, of the International Christian Centre, Nairobi, said: “Culturally and biblically, marriage and sexual relations between people of the same sex is a sin.”

“The Bible is clear that God created us in his image; He created us male and female. Therefore, in the Book of Leviticus 18:22 He warns men: ‘Do not have sex relations with a man as one does with a woman’. God calls this an abomination.”

Mr Kararu Ririe, a close friend of the couple and a confessed gay Kenyan residing in California, tweeted shortly after attending the wedding: “This afternoon I had a chance to congratulate my friend and his husband on the occasion of their marriage. It is a rare thing to see a Kenyan man so courageous! Congratulations.”

One of the men lived in Atlanta, Georgia, before moving to California.

Pst Kitoto added in his reaction: “For the man and a woman, sex was not only meant for pleasure but also for procreation.

“That is why, in Romans 1:27-32, the Bible tells us that as mankind walked in disobedience to the commands of God, this led to a depraved mind where men lusted after other men and women after their own kind. They not only burned with passion for each other but they also recommended the same practice for others.”

“What we need to understand is that God, in his love for us, still loves the sinner. However, he hates  sin. I believe when we turn to him in repentance, he will welcome us back.”

Soon after taking the vows, the two posted the following multiple hashtags — some of which are very popular within the gay community in the US — on his Twitter handle and Facebook page: #HappilyMarried #NewlyWed #GayCouple #GayHusbands #2Hubbies #Blessed #JewishHubby #ChristianHubby #Hubby1 #Hubby2 #4Ever1 #InGodsMath #GetItRight #NoWife #ThankYou!”

It was an emotional reunion between father and daughter in Nairobi. Judy Wangui, having never met her dad is now married with two children.

According to K24, Peter Muriu met Mary Wangui, his Class eight sweetheart while he was in Form Three. As fate would have it, the man relocated to the United States. Little did he know that he had left an offspring.

Fast forward, 43 years later, the man traveled to Kenya after getting wind that a woman who looked exactly like him had been spotted.

“As I was roaming here and there, someone told me someone who was your girl back in the day got a baby who looks like you,” he said during an interview conducted on the fridges of the reunion party in Runda, Nairobi.

Innitially, Muriu toyed with the idea of conducting a DNA test.

“But I said before making a decision, I am going to see the girl. After seeing her, I said, Oh Lord, no need for a DNA here.”

The daughter was equally elated.

“Nimefurahi kumuona babangu maanake tangu nizaliwe sijawahi kuitana baba,” said Wangui.
