Examination board Twitter account admin exposes ignorance on basic online terms

Published

on

The administrator of Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) Twitter account was on Monday caught flatfooted after exposing ignorance on basic online terms.

The ‘admin’ had been tweeted by a user to check DM, an acronym that refers to direct messages.

In a quick response, the Knec account administrator questioned; “Good afternoon, what do you mean by DM?”

The response attracted critics who called out the ‘admin’ leading to a quick retraction by the body responsible for overseeing national examinations

But even the response that was put out later was also wanting. The ‘admin’ requested the user, who had said he had already sent a DM, to send a message.

“Good afternoon, cheche we are here please DM your query,” read the second response.

Twitter goofs by government officials are common with the President Uhuru Kenyatta’s communication team being a common offender.

The State House team has in the past misspelt the new Aide-de-Camp’s name, tweeted a statement that had bracketed instructions to tag the Bush family in a condolence tweet and written wrong captions for photos.

How lawyer stole Governor Waiguru’s heart: The beautiful love story of the newly engaged couple

Published

on

Ululations from the negotiation tent followed by wild cheer, song and dance sealed the deal in which city lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo won Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s heart. The date was February 16, two days after Valentines Day, the setting in picturesque Kiamungo in Kirinyaga. Gathered to lent ear, eye and mouth to the traditional engagement event between the two lovebirds were invited guests, friends and family.

No photos were allowed.Dressed in African regalia, Waiguru shyly walked to her soon-to-be husband, with her gaze fixed on the ground.

Kamotho had paid dowry, gone through the Kikuyu custom of paying for the locked gate to be opened, and identified her among women who had covered themselves to gauge his familiarity with his love.

“It was a beautiful ceremony. The time was right for us to take our relationship to the next level,” Kamotho told the Saturday Standard.

The event brought to an end speculation and hushed conversations on the status of their relationship. In their own words, the love starts from a ferry in Likoni channel, Mombasa 10 years ago.

At the time, they were travelling for constitutional conference and in the heat of Coast, they shared a simple meal – bread and Soda – that struck Kamotho’s heart.

“I realised she was a basic girl,” the former commissioner for Commission for Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) says.

They were both consulting for parties that were negotiating the constitution. Kamotho was a team leader and Waiguru had been sent to advise them on public finance chapter.

He decided to pursue her further. After several phone conversations, she submitted to his requests for a date.

He took her to a Thai restaurant in Nairobi, and it is there that they had their first fight.

How billions broke Senator Linturi’s love

Published

on

Meru Senator Mithika Linturi who is embroiled in a bitter battle with his estranged wife Maryanne Kitany, now claims she is after some of his assets, conservatively valued at Sh762 million.

Responding to the divorce and matrimonial property dispute filed by Kitany, Linturi, in an affidavit filed at Milimani Commercial Court in civil suit number 78 of 2018, stated that he was never married Kitany since he has been in a monogamous marriage with Mercy Kaimenyi Mithika since April 8, 2000.

“The application and supporting affidavit are a cloak for Kitany’s vicious and fraudulent scheme to deprive me of my rights, interests, and ownership of the company Atticon Limited and other properties. I have never celebrated a customary marriage or any other form of marriage with her,” he states.

He adds that Kitany was in a monogamous marriage with her ex-husband up to and including January 3, 2016 and hence, legally incapable of entering into marriage with him in 2015 as alleged in her affidavit.

Part of Linturi’s presentation to court is an affidavit by his daughter who claims her father introduced Kitany to her and her siblings around December 2017.“My father informed us that Kitany was a friend in distress.

My father also informed us that he had previously allowed her temporary stay at our Runda home,” her affidavit states.

She says Kitany put on the façade of a nice, friendly and supportive guest and would in the initial days take them out for dinners and shopping.

According to her, things spiraled out of control in January this year, when Kitany found out that her daughter got a navel piercing with her help.

“She even accused me of being in possession of marijuana and orchestrated my detention at a rehabilitation centre on the pretext that I was addicted to marijuana, while her real motive was to create a wedge between my father and I,” read part of Linturi’s daughter’s affidavit.

She states that when she was released from the rehabilitation centre, Kitany warned her that she needed to ‘behave’ and refrain from sabotaging her (Kitany’s) relationship with her father.“Ever since that warning, our relationship has been incompatible, like water and oil,” she adds.

On October, 25 last year, Kitany, a former chief of staff in Deputy President William Ruto’s office, obtained orders barring Linturi from entering their Runda home where they lived together.
