Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, rated the world’s wealthiest person, announced Wednesday on Twitter that he and his wife MacKenzie Bezos were divorcing after a long separation.

“We want to make people aware of a development in our lives,” Jeff Bezos, 54, and MacKenzie Bezos, 48, said in joint statement posted to Bezos’ Twitter feed.

“As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends.”

The Bezoses said they felt “incredibly lucky” for their 25 years together and would remain involved with each other as close friends and parents.

“Though the labels might be different, we remain a family and we remain cherished friends,” the statement continued.

MacKenzie Bezos is the author of two books, including “The Testing of Luther Albright,” a psychological novel about the challenges facing a Sacramento, California father and his family after an earthquake.

She was one of the first employees of Amazon at its founding and in 2014 launched Bystander Revolution, an anti-bullying organization.

The couple, who have four children, met while working at the hedge fund DE Shaw prior to Bezos’s founding of Amazon.

Jeff Bezos is rated the world’s wealthiest man by Forbes and Bloomberg, with a fortune estimated at around $137 billion.

How DeMathew Was Left to Die By Motorists – Witness Recounts

Published

on

The late benga musician, John De’Mathew, could possibly have survived, had motorists heeded calls from a good samaritan to slow down and attend to him.

According to a city doctor who spoke exclusively to Kiss100 FM, he, together with another good samaritan identified as Peter, unsuccessfully tried to wave down cars for help.

The doctor, whose identity has been concealed, disclosed that Mathew was apparently still alive after the accident. He added that he was shocked by the callous nature of Kenyan motorists who all sped off.

“I was driving from behind but upon reaching the accident scene, I stopped after a man (Peter) who was standing next to a small car and a lorry waved at me.

“I helped him stop other vehicles which were coming from behind while he removed the singer from the car. Most motorists refused to stop, thinking we were thugs stopping them,” he revealed.

The doctor further claimed that even after removing the late singer from the wreckage, no motorists wanted to offer him a lift to the hospital.

He stated that they eventually opted to use a matatu to ferry him to the hospital.

“He wasn’t talking but was breathing. His legs were still on the brake pedal and upper body between the two front seats. He was bleeding from the forehead and didn’t utter a word. His eyes were closed,” the doctor narrated.

University of Botswana to offer Brexit course

Published

on

A course about Brexit, the UK’s plan to leave the European Union, is to be offered as an option by the University of Botswana’s history department.

The course, called Modern Britain, will “study the crisis” as it happens, a notice shared on Twitter said.

Students will, however, not sit for an exam.

Bruce Bennett from the university confirmed to the BBC that the course will be offered.

“[It] is intended to link the present crisis, which is of interest to many people, to the historical background,” he said.

He said that as an elective course students from other departments would be able to take it.

“There has been interest from students from across the university, including of course political science but not limited to them.”

He added that other major events in British history would also be covered.

“This semester the British history course will focus on the Brexit crisis, as it happens, in combination with relevant British history. This historical background includes both relatively recent events such as the Northern Irish Troubles and the Good Friday agreement, and the deeper background.”
