‘World’s oldest man’, 113, dies at his home

“World’s oldest man” Masazo Nonaka, who was born just two years after the Wright brothers launched humanity’s first powered flight, died on Sunday aged 113, Japanese media said.

Nonaka was born in July 1905, according to Guinness World Records — just months before Albert Einstein published his special theory of relativity.Guinness officially recognised Nonaka as the oldest living man after the death of Spaniard Francisco Nunez Olivera last year.”We feel shocked at the loss of this big figure.

He was as usual yesterday and passed away without causing our family any fuss at all,” his granddaughter Yuko told Kyodo News.Nonaka had six brothers and one sister, marrying in 1931 and fathering five children.He ran a hot spring inn in his hometown and in retirement enjoyed watching sumo wrestling on TV and eating sweets, according to local media.

Japan has one of the world’s highest life expectancies and was home to several people recognised as among the oldest humans to have ever lived.They include Jiroemon Kimura, the longest-living man on record, who died soon after his 116th birthday in June 2013.The oldest verified person ever — Jeanne Louise Calment of France — died in 1997 at the age of 122, according to Guinness.

A video has emerged in which an irate President Uhuru Kenyatta tells off  Transport CS James Wainaina Macharia for not living up to expectation .

Kenyatta made a surprise visit to a Chinese construction site where he found the construction work had stalled and started to enquire the reason behind it.

He also enquired on how they had been allocated funds and listened as the CS and the Chinese contractor each gave a different figure, much to the President’s dismay.

The CS tried to interject the President to save face for the Chinese but a seemingly infuriated Uhuru could hear none of it.

In their defense, the officials from the Chinese company insinuated that there was shortage of funds and that the project would be fast-tracked if they received enough monies.

Girl, 16, stabs boyfriend to death

Police in Ndhiwa Sub-county, Homa Bay, have arrested a 16-year-old student for allegedly stabbing and killing her boyfriend.

The girl was apprehended at her family’s home where the body of the 21-year-old man was found in a pool of blood.

The area chief on Monday said the student arrived home on Friday evening for the midterm school break.

Her family, the administrator said, later heard commotion at the back of the house and that upon checking, they found her boyfriend’s body.

Poor dad in court for attempt to sneak daughter out of KNH in bag

A 22 year-old-man who zipped up his one year-old daughter in a bag and attempted to smuggle her out of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has been charged.

Boniface Murage Wangechi was arrested by security guards as he attempted to avoid paying a bill of Sh56, 937.

The young girl was admitted at the facility on January 26 and discharged February 11, 2019.

While appearing before Nairobi Milimani Law Courts resident magistrate Ms Caroline Muthoni Nzibe, the man admitted to the charge of attempting to commit a felony.

“It is true. Yes I attempted to go away with my daughter,” he told the court.

“I was fearing that my daughter and my wife, would be detained at KNH for long since I could not raise the hospital bill of Sh56, 937,” he added.
