Anchor Dan Mwangi apologizes for ‘rude gestures’ on Ethiopia crash

NTV news anchor Dan Mwangi has apologized for seemingly making fun while reporting news on the Ethiopian airline crash.

The anchor who is seen dusting off ‘smoke’ from his shoulder and making choking gestures was viciously attacked on social media for his action.

Netizens accused the anchor of making fun of the situation and lacking remorse.

Dan apologized live on air during the business segment stating that it was not his intention to rub off on anyone wrongly.

Yesterday the anchor took to twitter and posted another apology explaining himself further.

US government releases the number of Kenyans sworn in as Citizens last year – 2,685

2,685 Kenyans became naturalized United States citizens in the first three quarters of the 2018 fiscal year, data from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) indicates.

Over the same period, a total of 544,475 foreign nationals holding US permanent residency became naturalized, with 44,095 of them being from African countries.

A total of 4,348 Kenyans became US citizens in the 2017 fiscal year, and 4,834 in fiscal year 2016.

In 2017, a total of 707,265 immigrants got naturalized in the United States.

To qualify for naturalization, immigrants must have been permanent residents (hold a green card) for at least five years, or at least three years if married to a US citizen.

American billionaire surprises students with Sh4 billion pledge to pay their loans

A billionaire technology investor and philanthropist on Sunday surprised graduating students with a promise to wipe out their debt for the entire 2019 class at Morehouse College.

Robert F. Smith made the announcement in front of nearly 400 graduating seniors, eliciting the biggest cheers of the morning.

“My family is going to create a grant to eliminate your student loans,” Smith said, according to a tweet from the school.

STUDENT LOANS

The 56-year-old, a former chemical engineer and investment banker – who was ranked by Forbes as the 163rd richest person in America last year will pay an estimated Sh4 billion ($40m) to cover the debts.

“On behalf of the eight generations of my family that have been in this country, we’re gonna put a little fuel in your bus,” he told the graduates at the private, all-male, liberal arts, historically black college.

He added, “This is my class, 2019. And my family is making a grant to eliminate their student loans. I know my class will make sure they pay this forward… and let’s make sure every class has the same opportunity going forward because we are enough to take care of our own community.”

Morehouse College is an all-male historically black college located in Atlanta.

GIVING PLEDGE

Smith is the founder and CEO of Vista Equity Partners, a private equity firm that invests in software, data, and technology-driven companies.

According to Forbes magazine, Smith’s net worth is about $5 billion. He has given generously before, to Cornell University, one of his alma maters, and cancer research and the arts.

Smith is the first African American to sign the Giving Pledge, a campaign started by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett that encourages the world’s wealthiest individuals to commit to dedicating the majority of their wealth to philanthropic causes.
