Cancer warrior Emmanuel Otieno, better known as Jadudi, has passed on.

Jadudi died at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu on Monday night.

“We regret to inform you that Jadudi, a.k.a. Emmanuel Otieno, succumbed to brain cancer at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kisumu on the night of March 4, 2019,” a statement from Africa Cancer Foundation said.

“He was a real Shujaa! May God rest his soul in eternal peace and comfort his family. ACF mourns Jadudi,” it added.

Jadudi shot into the limelight in 2015 after Jackson Biko, Business Daily writer, highlighted his battle with a brain tumor that had seen him undergo seven surgeries.

Biko’s blog post, The thing in Jadudi’s head, saw Kenyans raise Sh6.4 million in less than two days for Jadudi’s medical bill.

The funds were however the subject of a public uproar after it emerged that Jadudi’s medical expenses were actually covered by the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF)

The Africa Cancer Foundation (ACF), which co-ordinated the funds drive, fell short of answering how the money was used.

State House dismisses claims of rift between Uhuru, Ruto

Published

on

State House has denied claims that there was a growing rift between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, a day after the Head of State lashed out at his critics.

State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena said a series of misleading narratives have been propagated through the mainstream and social media to create an impression that the duo was no longer seeing eye to eye.

On Wednesday, Uhuru seemed to lose his cool when he dismissed critics of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) task force report, saying they were directionless individuals who criticised the document even before it was released.

Dr Ruto and his allies had been leading attacks against the BBI report long before the document was launched only to make a U-turn after its launch.

“Even before we released the report, they were all over telling us about its contents. Now it has been released and they have taken us along a new direction,” the president was quoted saying in Gatundu North Sub-county on Thursday

.But yesterday, Ms Dena was quick to dismiss claims of a simmering rift between the two.She cited a recent photo where Ruto was seen standing outside the holding room during the BBI report launch, which created a sensation online that the DP had been locked out of Uhuru’s meeting

Announcing her pregnancy two weeks ago while already at full term, the celebrated actress revealed that she wanted to be sure of her baby’s wellbeing before making the news public.

“I was not hiding the fact that I had a baby on the way, I wanted to confirm the well-being of the baby before I announced it on social media,” said Njambi.

A decision, informed, perhaps, by a low moment in 2018 when she suffered a miscarriage.

According to the actress who plays a sassy, comical character in the THRK show, the experience left her severely depressed and heartbroken.

“When we got pregnant in November 2017, we were not ready. I remember after the miscarriage on April 2018 everyone told us that everything happened for a reason,” she narrated.

She added that the loss was compounded by other struggles at the time including a broken relationship.

“Lord knows how hard losing that baby was, we were not only heartbroken but our relationship got broken too,” said the thespian.

“This is our miracle, it came at the right time with its blessings,” she said during her pregnancy announcement.

News that she had delivered has excited her fans base with many flooding her pages with congratulatory messages.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko  and others are expected to be arraigned before the anti-corruption court Friday to face charges over the loss of Sh357 million.

The City County boss was on Friday morning arrested in Voi.

This followed orders by  Kenya’s public prosecutor  DPP Noordin Haji who called for his immediate arrest and arraignment.

Other City Hall officials expected in court are county secretary Peter Mbugua, members of the tender committee Patrick Mwangangi, Samuel Ndung’u, Edwin Kariuki, Lawrence Mwangi, and Preston Miriti, among others.

The governor and the officials will face charges of conspiracy to commit an economic crime, willful failure to comply with the law and conflict of interest.

Haji said investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had  sufficient evidence to sustain the charges.

“Following a comprehensive investigation by EACC and independently reviewing the investigation files, I have found sufficient evidence to warrant prosecution and I have therefore ordered immediate arrest and arraignment in court of Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko,” the DPP stated.

“Investigations into these crimes have been challenging because of the repeated attempts by the accused to obstruct the course of the investigation by deploying intimidation tactics in addition to using goons to threaten law enforcement officials carrying out their constitutional mandates,” the DPP added.
