VIDEO: Akothee switches to gospel

Published

on

Singer Akothee has shared details that drove her to quit secular music and become a gospel musician.

The singer said there is so much bile in secular music and she is trading places for the tranquility in church.

She said she realized that its only in church where there is no hate and jealousy among musicians.

“In the secular industry you don’t know if someone you are speaking to is your enemy or supporter. We don’t have cheerleaders in this industry, we have killers of talent.

“I applause all the gospel artistes because you know in church all you need is Jesus. The church is always full, that’s why I want to jump to gospel because it’s easier for me,” Akothee said during an appearance  at the relaunch of EMB,  a music label owned by gospel singer Kevin Bahati.

Akothee blasted Kenyan musicians, claiming their unprofessional conduct had discouraged her from starting a record label.

“I will never start a label because Kenyan artistes are the most indiscipline, disrespectful, ungrateful and dishonest people.”

The musician also clarified her act of mobilizing millions of shillings to buy food donations for hunger stricken people in Turkana was not a publicity stunt .

“I did not go to Turkana to prove the government wrong, that it’s not working. I share a special bond with Turkana. That is where I was born and brought up. For very many years my parents worked there as administrators. Turkana is very dear to me and I couldn’t just sit and do nothing.”

Blonde Dj Mo caught using iPhone while marketing Oppo

Published

on

The concept of an “influencer” is pretty clear; “an individual who can reach many people through various communication channels and can therefore, potentially, influence them to like or dislike, adopt, buy or skip buying, products and services”.

Samuel Muraya, popularly known as Dj Mo, broke the code by going the opposite while influencing for and endorsing the latest Oppo smartphone F11 launched this week.

The gospel Dj sent out several tweets to describe how he likes the latest Oppo gadget while using an iPhone which is a rival product.

Kenyans online, who never miss the opportunity to poke fun at an online gaffe, took notice before Dj Mo could delete the tweets.

NEW FORM OF MARKETING

Using celebrity influencers has become the new form of marketing. It is believed that their fans are likely to use a brand that their “idols” are associated with.

Mr Muraya is not the first person to make such a blunder.

American media mogul and former talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey once sent shares of Windows tumbling down after she used an iPad to promote Windows Surface tablet.

Another influencer Luka Sabbat was sued last year for failing to live up to an agreement to promote Snap Spectacles on his Instagram account.

The company filed the lawsuit in New York Supreme Court, alleging that Sabbat breached his agreement to post three Instagram stories and one post to his Instagram feed in which he would be wearing the spectacles.

While in Nigeria, renowned tech YouTuber, Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) Samsung Nigeria was forced to deactivate their verified account after he posted from an iPhone.

Russian TV personality Ksenia Sobchak, who doubled as Samsung’s brand ambassador was also sued after she was photographed using an iPhone X during a TV interview instead of a Samsung.

I was warned against building my mother a house – Comedian Jalang’o

Published

on

Comedian Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o has revealed that he was warned against building his mother a house.

Addressing Alex Mwakideu, Jalang’o narrated that after his father passed away, he decided to build his mother a house but was told it was against Luo traditions.

Jalang’o explained that according to the Luo, it was taboo for him to build her house and flouting it meant courting death.

The only remedy, he said, was for her to get another man before moving to the house. The funny bone, however, shrugged the demands aside and went ahead.

Mpaka sahii niko na wewe hapa,” said Jalang’o.

Touted as one of the richest radio presenters in the republic, Jalang’o lost his father just hours after landing his first gig at Kiss 100.

“When my dad died he told me one thing, I have a letter from my dad before he died because I could not even afford to go bury my dad when he died.

“The same day I got my very first gig at Kiss 100 is the same day my dad died. Caroline called me and told me Jalang’o you are replacing Nyambane when she hung up my mom called and told me your dad is gone. That’s how sad it was for me,” he narrated.
