VIDEO: Jeff Koinange reads news in Kiswahili and Kenyans go wild

Published

on

Citizen TV anchor, Jeff Koinange, is so adept at English. Blessed with a golden voice and eloquent diction.

However, when it comes to Swahili, the journalist, who also hosts a show on Hot 96 FM alongside comedian Professor Hamo, is the total opposite.

On Monday, Jeff was tested to read Swahili news by the comedian, Prof Hamo, and news presenter, Teddy Otieno, and the trio ended up bursting into laughter.

Jeff hilariously struggled to pronounce Swahili words and ended up mispronouncing some of them.

He kept on posing while dragging his pronunciation of the Swahili words. He even had to reread words so as to pronounce them as a whole.

It took Teddy’s intervention to even explain some words to Jeff.

“What is kuwakodolea,” he inquired amid laughter within the studio.

Kuwakodolea means staring at them,” Teddy explained.

Jeff was reading a piece of news stating that residents of Kisumu had dared to take the law into their own hands and beat up monkeys for taunting and mocking them for years.

The pesky animals were accused of often using signals and sign language to hint that women do not have intelligence, before wading them off.

Laura Walubengo: Leaving Capital FM after 12 years was so scaring

Published

on

Former Capital FM presenter Laura Walubengo is almost stepping into the fourth floor.

Walubengo recently took to social media to look back at her career before she turns 40 years saying that leaving Capital was one of the scariest moves she has ever taken.

“Moving from Capital to DStv was such a life changer for me. I grew so much and so quickly. My outlook, my ideas, my thought process, my dreams, the possibilities; everything just grew. It was so scary leaving Capital FM after 12.5yrs, and it wasn’t an active move but rather a door opening and I couldn’t peep – I was either in or out. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds. Even today! 6 days to 39” shared  Walubengo.

Movement

Walubengo left Capital in 2014 for South African firm MultiChoice as the Lead Digital Communications Specialist East Africa for DStv based in Kenya before she returned to Capital in 2017.

She left yet again in 2018, only after 7 months Laura called it quits again this time to join China Global Television Network (CGTN).

Popular bongo actress Irene Uwoya on Monday caused a stampede at a media briefing in Dar es Salaam by bribing journalists with a rain of money.

Uwoya, flanked by other top bongo actors walked in late for the press conference at Hyatt Regency DSM.

She had convened the media briefing  to make an announcement on the launch of a new Tanzania movie service called Swahiliflix,  a new channel that intends to market and sell bongo movies online.

The official launch of the Swahiliflix is set for August 31 at Mlimani City Plaza in Dar es Salaam.

“Tarehe 31 ni siku ya kumbukumbu kwa wasanii sisi bongo movie, haijawahi kutokea hiyo kitu itakayotikea Mlimani City itaweka historia, itakuwa ni red carpet ya funga mwaka. Kwa hiyo ndugu zetu waandishi mjipange hata kwenye kuvaa mjipange. Msituangushe sasa mje masuti nini msije kama hivi tulivyozoea,” Uwoya urged them.

Uwoya also apologized to the journalists for keeping them waiting.

And as she stood to leave, Uwoya reached out in her hand bag, pulled out a bundle of cash and started throwing it towards the journalists.

She said its was a small incentive to appreciate their support.

“Na nisiwachoshe sana nimewaweka muda mrefu, swahiliflix ni mambo moto lazima tusalimiane na ndugu zetu waandishi wa habari, nawatuza na kitu kidogo.”
