The death of a Kenyan-born US Marine  while reportedly trying to save a girl from drowning in a swimming pool in Arizona is raising questions among family members both in Kenya and the US.

Mr Adema Masakah Chris, 35, was on holiday with his family when he died.

Chris, a son to Ikolomani Member of Parliament, Bernard Shinali, joined the US army in November 2017.

Local media reported that the wife to the deceased is nine months pregnant and was expected to deliver before the end of this week.

Bonnie Louise Brown, a close friend to the deceased wrote: “I am so heartbroken to hear of my friend/brother Ademah Masakah Chris death! He just earned his U.S. citizenship last year, he was a father, husband and active military. He saved a child from drowning and in the process, drowned himself. Rest in Power brother Chris and many prayers to his wife, sis Joan Sinali!! I love you guys!!”

A grief stricken family back in Kenya could not believe the news of his passing.

Mr Robert Ayisi, the elder brother to Hon Shinali and family spokesman told the local media:

“We received the news of his (Mr Masakah) death from a relative who works with him in the US.”

According to the Daily Nation, several leaders from Kakamega County, including National Assembly Chief Whip Benjamin Washiali, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe and Kakamega Woman Rep Elsie Muhanda visited and condoled with the MP.

“It is not clear how a person who trained to survive in difficult situations like the US Marine could drown in a swimming pool,” said Washiali.

An autopsy is awaited to ascertain the actual cause of death.

Ciru Njuguna is 28 and her husband Greg Twiss is 60. Please don’t let that age gap fool you, these two deeply love each other and they are living their best life together.

But when people say Ciru is just after Greg’s money and he will end up in a septic tank, that gets to her. She is not ashamed of her relationship and strongly urges the public to let other people be.

“My German husband is older than my father. People say I am his slave and he is a colonial master,” she says.

She sat down with Lynn Ngugi for this exclusive episode of Tuko Talks and this is her story.
