Woman in court for taking Sh15m mortgage with forged signatures

A senior manager with Mars Wringley’s company who allegedly faked a management consultant’s signature claiming he was her spouse and took out a mortgage for a Sh15 million property in Ngong is facing forgery.

Jane Muthoni Kariuki is accused of forging David Kimeli Mugun’s signature appended on a spousal consent mortgage application document presented to NCBA bank on November 4 last year.

She is accused of forging Mugun’s signature appearing on the document named Mugun as her spouse on November 4 last year with intent to deceive.

Mugun did not sign, and was not aware that Kariuki had listed him as her husband in the document he purportedly signed.

Kariuki was accused of faking Mugun’s signature with intent to deceive.

She is also accused of forging an advocate’s signature appended to the form.

The document is purported to have been signed by lawyer George Bwoyere of Akoto and Akotoa advocates on November 4 last year.

Kariuki is also accused of uttering a false document after she presented the spousal consent form to the bank falsely naming Mugun as her spouse.

She denied the charges before senior resident magistrate Charles Mwaniki of Kibera law courts.

Did you feel the earth tremors reported in Nairobi, Mombasa?

Earth tremors have been reported in parts of Nairobi and Mombasa on Wednesday evening but Kenya Meteorological Department has yet to confirm.

The tremor measured 5.9 on the Richter scale.

Kenyans living in parts of the capital city and the coastal area took to social media to report earth tremors around 8.15pm.

The tremor could be as a result of a 5.9 magnitude earthquake recorded in Kilindozi, Tanzania on Wednesday evening, according to the United States Geological Survey.

Similar tremors were felt in parts of Dar Es Salaam around the same time.

Some tweeps reported rattles in their house while others reported light shaking although the quake would not cause any damage at such distance.

According to Volcano Discovery, not many earthquakes of such size have occurred in recent history in this region as it is far from plate boundaries and major faults.

Seismic activity in east Africa is mostly related to the Eastern African Rift further to the east.

People near the epicentre reported that the quake came in two waves; first, there was “around 8 to 10 seconds of vibration and then a 2-second long shock.

So far, there are no reports of major damage or injuries, fortunately.

Danson Mungatana’s wife deletes husband’s photos from social media page after his arrest

Media personality Mwanaisha Chidzuga has pulled down photos of her husband Danson Mungatana after he was arrested on Tuesday afternoon on allegations of defrauding a city woman.

Chidzuga had on Sunday posted a romantic message on her social media messages where he wished the former Garsen MP a happy 50th birthday.

“#Mumewangumzuri you are 50yrs old today.Thank you for being my pillar of strength the love of my life and for your unconditional support. We love you and cheers to the next chapter of your life..One day will tell our story Inshallah. Much Blessings #50looksgoodonyou,” the former K24 news anchor posted.

Two days after the post, Mungatana was the subject of a publicized arrest after he was picked up by DCI detectives at the Sagret Hotel in Nairobi.

The publicity saw some social media users flood her page with mocking messages after which she pulled the Sunday post and several other posts where she had shared photos of Mungatana.

On Wednesday, Chidzuga posted a motivational quote suggesting that she was soldiering on despite the setback. She, however, disabled comments on her Instagram account.

“My motto today ‘I still rise and keep moving forward”..#womenwhowork #wcw ,” she said.

Reports indicated that the former legislator had been implicated in a scheme where a woman was asked to pay Sh1 million under the guise of facilitating her being awarded a tender in the military.
