Rape and murder of 80-year-old granny leaves village in shock

Published

on

A 80-year-old woman was on Sunday reportedly raped and strangled at Kianyange Village.

The body of Jedida Wanjiru Wanjohi was discovered by her three-year-old grandson on Sunday evening who then alerted other family members.

FOUND DEAD

The young boy informed the other family members that “her grandmother has refused to wake up.”

This prompted the deceased’s last-born son, Stephen Weru, to go check on her.

Weru found his mother dead, naked and with her undergarment stuffed inside her mouth.

INVESTIGATIONS

Confirming the incident, Ndia Deputy County Commissioner, Moses Ivuto, said investigations into the incident have already began.

He urged area residents to provide the police with any information that could help in the investigations.

The body of the deceased was taken to Karatina Jamii Mortuary.

DeMathew’s friends narrate how Sabina Chege left him for Pastor Ng’ang’a

Published

on

A close friend to fallen Kikuyu musician John DeMathew has spoken on the widely speculated love affair between the deceased and Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege.

DeMathew’s friends, anonymously quoted by Nairobian, said the musician met Sabina in the early 2000s and the two fell in love.

She was interning at Kameme FM where DeMathew was a frequent visitor for interviews and lobbying for his music to be played on air.

The friends claimed that their love affair resulted in the birth of two of Sabina’s three children.

The relationship, however, did not work out even as DeMathew pleaded with the soft-spoken radio presenter to become his second wife.

DeMathew’s close friend indicated that it was Pastor James Ng’ang’a of Neno Ministries who snatched Sabina away from the Kikuyu celebrated musician.

At the time, Ng’ang’a had a preaching slot on KBC and on Coro FM where Sabina was working. He had just lost his first wife and reportedly fell head over heels for DeMathew’s catch.

They are said to have considered marriage and Sabina would occasionally accompany Ng’ang’a as he inspected construction of his buildings in Nairobi and Naivasha.

The new love did not work out as the friends who spoke on the union said they dissuaded Sabina against agreeing to Ng’ang’a wedding proposal on account of his controversial personality.

We were not comfortable with that union. We loved Sabina because she had done so much for us. We were worried and wanted the best for her…Sabina eventually dumped him towards 2012. She decided to focus on the Murang’a Woman Rep seat,” one of her friends was quoted by Nairobian.

A few months after their separation, the 66-year old pastor wed Mercy Murugi – a young woman in her early thirties.

Ng’ang’a recently said he had decided to marry a wife who was half her age because he wanted someone “with low mileage”.

Sabina would later marry former Kenya Dairy Board managing director Maina Gathitu and become his second wife

Despite parting ways, DeMathew and Sabina are said to have remained close friends – with the singer being the lead musician for the embrace movement associated with the Murang’a Women Rep.

Matiang’i: Stop whining, the world won’t end for not drinking this weekend

Published

on

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i has told off Kenyans for finding fault with his order for the closure of bars and entertainment joints over the weekend to allow for the national census exercise to take place.

Speaking on Thursday morning while addressing the media Dr Matiang’i said that he has heard the plight of Kenyans, but unfortunately he cannot revise the decision that has already been made.

He argued that the exercise only happens once after every 10 years and that Kenyans should be able to ‘sacrifice’ at least two days to allow for the smooth execution of the process.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience caused for the closure of social places. Please bear with us, we cannot revise the decision. But please bear in mind that it is only this once in 10 years, we are not being insensitive,” Matiang’i said.

KENYANS’ REACTION

“The directive to shutdown bars is not a motive to ban drinking, we cannot ban drinking. I am surprised at the reaction from Kenyans. You will think the world is coming to an end this weekend,” he further explained.

The CS gave the order on Tuesday saying that all entertainment spots, including bars, shall be closed from 5pm on Saturday, August 24 until 6pm on Sunday, August 25.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) is set to conduct the exercise with 138,572 enumerators, accompanied by security personnel, will be knocking on people’s doors at night.
