Swaleh Mdoe blasts ‘senior’ media gurus

Renowned Swahili news anchor Swaleh Mdoe on Thursday hit out at his colleagues who adopt fancy names.

Through a tweet, Mdoe noted that Kenyans are obsessed with ‘big’ titles and went ahead list a couple.

He further suggested that there should be no seniority in newsrooms since most of them do the same thing.

“Kenyans are obsessed with BIG titles. Dr, Prof, Eng so-and-so.Senior Editor, Senior Anchor.

“What seniority is there when we are editing same copy or reading news? Just asking SENIOR media gurus. Labish,” he wrote.

The anchor did not mention any names but it seems he was pointing an accusing finger at some of his colleagues.

In 2018, the anchor was heavily criticized after announcing that he was willing to sell his kidney to sort out ‘pressing’ financial issues.

He even shared his mobile number and emphasized on the urgency of the matter.

Swaleh also said that he did not want to bother people and could live on one kidney.

#KhalwaleChallenge: Kenyans outdo each other in hilarious challenge

Cheeky Kenyans have launched yet another online challenge to see who comes up with the best photo imitating the stone stunt by former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale in Kibra on Thursday that went viral.

Khalwale became the butt of the joke online after he was pictured armed with stones during the tension-filled Kibra by-election that was won by ODM party’s Imran Benard Okoth.

In one of the pictures doing rounds on social media, the bullfighter is seen collecting stones from a ditch and posing as if ready for whatever comes his way after rowdy youth made attempts to kick him out of the expansive slum.

Well, as expected Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) did not miss the opportunity to initiate and sustain a challenge aping the posture by Khalwale that trended for the better part of Friday afternoon.

Below are some of the pictures from the challenge.

Why Club Tribeka has closed its doors to revellers

A popular clubbing spot in the Nairobi central business district been closed. Club Tribeka Lounge, situated on Banda Street, has been shut for renovations, according to its management.

This contradicts widespread social media reports that it has been permanently closed down due to mismanagement.

A notice by the Urban Planning Compliance and Enforcement Department of the Nairobi City County confirms that the premises will be under renovation.

“Authority is hereby granted to carry out the above maintenance works on the referenced plot subject to you having received consent for the same from the landlord…” reads the notice in part.

However, there were reports that the club had been shut down after a fallout between the directors.

A waitress who works at the club had revealed that she had not been paid for three months despite working for the club for seven years. She also revealed that there were plans to take the club to the labour court but their plans did not work out.

The claims arose after its sister clubs Natives, Zodiac, Farenheit and Rafikiz wound up few months ago. The four were run by the the same management. Efforts to reach the directors have proven to be futile.
