Former Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore and marathoner Eliud Kipchoge have topped the list of 2019 most searched on Google.

Other local personalities are John DeMathew, Joyce Laboso, Ken Okoth, Tob Cohen, Governor Mike Sonko, Jonathan Moi, Ivy Wangeci and Esther Arunga.Game of Thrones, Money Heist, Avengers Endgame, Bird Box, When They See Us and Sex and the City topped the list on most popular movies and serieses.Can you drive a manual car?

Well, ‘how to drive a manual car’ topped the list of Google How-to searches.Others in the list included how to file returns, apply for a passport, start a business, make money, [to be] successful in life, get a baby boy,  check CRB status, check KCPE results 2019 and get pregnant.The information by Google was released on Monday night at a Nairobi hotel.

Other top trending local personality searches listed Ken Okoth, Joyce Laboso, Tob Cohen, Ivy Wangeci, Imran Okoth and McDonald Mariga.Okoth and Laboso died from cancer on July 26 and 29 respectively.

Their deaths, and that of Safaricom ex-CEO Collymore shaped conversations on the scourge and what the government is doing to curb the rising numbers.

Top trending news searches featured Form I selection 2020, the Likoni Ferry tragedy, BBI report and Kibra elections.

Also in the list were the Ethiopian air crash, KCPE results 2019, the Dusit Riverside attack and Census 2019.

Top trending personality searches included Zimbabwe former President Robert Mugabe, musicians Oliver Mtukudzi and Nipsey Hustle, David Luiz, Bruno Fernandez, Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson, Harry Maguire and footballer Nicolas Pépé.The list on top how-to tech searches majorly revolved around phones.

They included how to track a phone number, take care of a phone, hack a phone and track a lost phone.Other How-to searches included downloading YouTube videos, creating a website, hacking Wi-Fi, converting PDF to Word, creating a YouTube channel and paying for parking.

Cooking tips and queries made it to the list of top 2019 searches, including how to cook mandazi, bake a simple cake, make pancakes or cook omena and spaghetti.

Health queries in the Google search surrounded calculating BMI, losing belly fat, losing weight, reducing tummy and getting pregnant.Trending sports searches were the Africa cup of nations 2019, Uefa nations league, ICC world cup 2019, Rugby World Cup, EPL, women’s world cup, Kariobangi sharks vs Everton and Zarika vs Phiri.

Bravo! Kenyan named IMF Secretary

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has named a Kenyan as the Secretary of the Fund and Director of the Secretary’s Department.

Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), announced on Wednesday her intention to name Mr. Ceda Ogada as the Secretary of the Fund and Director of the Secretary’s Department.

Mr. Ogada succeeds Mr. Jianhai Lin, whose retirement was announced previously. Mr. Ogada is expected to begin his work on September 1, 2020.

“Ceda has outstanding institutional knowledge, strategic and intellectual heft, and people leadership. His unparalleled ability to bring people together, combined with his profound appreciation of the Fund’s institutional history and legal principles, as well as strong service orientation, will help the Fund to even more effectively serve our member countries in a very challenging economic environment,” Ms. Georgieva stated.

Mr. Ogada joined the IMF’s Legal Department in 1999 and rose through the ranks to become Deputy General Counsel in 2014.

During the time, he has worked on virtually all aspects of the Fund’s work, including advising on the governance of the Fund, on country operations, helping to develop Fund policies and implementation guidance, and providing technical assistance to member countries.

Key projects that he has worked on include the Fund’s enhanced policy to address governance and corruption issues; ensuring the adequacy of the Fund’s lending resources; reforms in lending policy such as the establishment of the Flexible Credit Line (FCL) and the Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust (CCRT); reviews on surveillance policy and capacity development strategy; and transparency, archives, and communications policies.

Mr. Ogada was heavily involved in the work on euro area crisis countries during the global financial crisis.

More recently, he has led the Legal Department’s work in promoting good governance and transparency in several countries, including with respect to the use of emergency financing for the COVID-19 crisis.

Before joining the Fund, Mr. Ogada worked at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development as a legal expert, and before that he was in private legal practice in the United States.

He holds a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and a B.A. in history from Dartmouth College.

Azziad lands TV deal set to be aired in nine TV stations simultaneously

Tik Tok sensation Azziad Nasenya is set to host a new television show just three months after she became an internet sensation thanks to the viral ‘Utawezana Challenge’.

The 20-year-old actress and content creator will host an upcoming entertainment show dubbed Concert Nyumbani alongside media personality Mwaniki Mageria.

According to the show’s Directors, Eugene Mbugua and Enos Olik, the new show will be airing on nine TV stations simultaneously starting this Sunday at 2pm.

The new show will be aired on NTV, KTN, K24, KBC, Switch TV, Metropol TV, Y24, TV47, and PPP TV.

Concert Nyumbani is a musical show that has been put together to celebrate heroes who’ve emerged from the coronavirus pandemic.

“So proud to be a part of this history-making appreciation show of our Heros who go out of their way for others.. Frontline Responders, local exceptional community servers, we salute you! …. Make a date guys!! Sunday is coming,” said Mageria.

Mbugua said that he put together a team of some of the most talented people in Kenya to work on a documentary and musical show celebrating heroes who’ve emerged from the pandemic. This, he has done with the help of the Kenya Film Commission.

Azziad started acting in stage plays in high school before joining Hearts of Art theatre group, where she played many roles while pursuing a certificate in broadcast journalism at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.

Azziad also announced that she will be hosting another show dubbed The Cook-Off alongside comedian Mulamwah.
