Babu Owino, Embakasi East MP, has been moved to Gigiri Police Station. He is supposed to stay there for the rest of the weekend.

Police officers noticed an increased movement of young people near the police station, which was interfering with the smooth running of work there.

“According to intelligence reports, the MP’s supporters were planning to protests outside the station and we had to move him. This is one of the busy police stations in Nairobi and any protest would paralyze our work,” said our source who sought anonymity.

The Mp was taken to Kilimani police station Friday morning after a shooting incident he was involved in at Kilimani B club.

Babu shot DJ Evolve on the neck, causing him to be admitted at Nairobi Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

George Kinoti, the DCI boss, says the MP is likely to be facing attempted murder charges. They have also recovered the gun used at the incident.

“We will charge him with attempted murder. It is apparent that he wanted to kill the man,” remarked DCI Director George Kinoti as quoted by Nation.

Speaker Elachi seeks Court’s nod to serve as acting Nairobi Governor

Beatrice Elachi, Nairobi County Assembly Speaker, has gone to court seeking an approval to take up duties of Nairobi Governor after Mike Sonko was prohibited from going to his office.
Elachi, through lawyer Tom Ojienda, wants the Supreme Court to expound constitutionally whether the speaker can take duties of the governor.
She insists the power vacuum at the county has caused a constitutional crisis at the City Hall.
The Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court Daniel ole Keiwua has given orders for the issue to be heard on March 5th and advised both parties to file and serve their papers.
Last month, Sonko presented an application in court wanting to block Elachi from taking his Governor duties. Sonko has been serving the office with no deputy after the resignation of Polycarp Igathe in January 2018.
The embattled governor is facing graft charges. He was released on a Ksh 15million bail and barred from going to his office till the case is heard and determined.
Sonko nominated Anne Kananu Mwenda last month to serve as Deputy Governor but her appointment is yet to be vetted by the Nairobi County Assembly.

Court declines to allow Governor Sonko to travel abroad

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko cannot travel abroad after the court refused to give him his passport.
The application was presented at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday. Sonko said he is set to fly to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for an official meeting.

He indicated he had an invitation to attend the 10th session of the World Urban Forum which will run from February 8th to 13th.
“The applicant has been invited in his capacity as the Governor of the Nairobi City County and is expected to engage in discussion with other participants on the theme of the forum,” reads court papers.

The Governor said he was open to following the prerequisites given by the court for the release of his passport. However, the prosecution is not ready to release the travel documents saying they need time to authenticate whether the letter of invitation is valid.
The prosecution further says Sonko had already paid for the trip using his cards, that showed proof of personal travel arrangements and not official duty.

Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti in a ruling on Thursday, said returning the passport will send the wrong message yet he was the one who ordered the passport to be given to the court.

“The release of the passport is tantamount to review my orders which procedurally may lead to abuse of office which the court is not ready to do,” ruled Ogoti.
The embattled governor is facing graft charges. He was released on a Ksh 15million bail and barred from going to his office till the case is heard and determined.

Court freezes Nairobi Governor Sonko’s 10 bank accounts holding Sh18 million

The High Court gave orders on Thursday to freeze Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko funds deposited in 10 bank accounts.

This comes barely two days after Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku gave an order to the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) to unfreeze five bank accounts belonging to Sonko after the agency’s previous order expired.

Sonko complained of not being able to support his family. He went to court to challenge the court ruling to continue freezing his account despite the court order secured by ARA mid-December last year expired.

High Court judge Luka Kimaru on Thursday, issued new orders to freeze Sonko’s account pending an application for the funds in the account to be rendered to the government.

The court argues that the money in the account could be the same as the one stolen from the county. Sonko was also prohibited from using the money or transferring it.
