Deputy President William Ruto yesterday said his last conversation with slain police Sergeant Arnold Kipyegon Kenei was on Monday, February 17, three days before his body was found.

The DP said that their conversation was centered on the officer’s relation with former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, who has been implicated in a fictitious Sh39.5 billion military equipment deal.

“At that time, there was already an investigation going on which mentioned my office. I asked Sgt Kenei what he knew.

I called the two other officers and they explained everything to me, including the content of CCTV footage,” Mr Ruto said.

Sgt Kenei, who worked as the chief security officer at the DP’s office in Harambee House Annex, was found dead in his house in Imara Daima

on February 20, with a single bullet wound to his chin. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations in a media briefing said the officer was murdered.

During the burial service of the deceased officer in Solai Subcounty of Nakuru County, the DP told mourners that during his meeting with Sgt Kenei and the two other officers, he told them to present themselves at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and record statements.

“I then called the head of security of government buildings to inquire about what had happened because I had been away, and then I asked them to ensure that they give details to the investigators,” Mr Ruto said.

Later, he said, the other officers told him that Sgt Kenei had not gone to the DCI to record his statement as it was required.

“I was also told that he was missing and that nobody could reach him on phone. I made several calls and I was informed that the missing officer was (Labour and Social Protection CS Simon) Chelugui’s relative,” he said.

“I made several other calls and on Thursday evening (February 20), I was informed that the officer was dead.”

The DP alleged that the killing of Sgt Kenei and the fictitious arms deal that has been linked to his death were schemes orchestrated to demean his office and fight him politically.

He accused the Director of Criminal Investigations of allowing politicians to use him in fighting political battles.

“Many people have fighting political battles using this death.
I urge them to fight me and leave other people out of the fight,”

Mr Ruto said, as he described the slain officer as a dedicated and professional employee who handled all clients who made their way to his office.

A woman has been arrested in the Kenyan coast after spiking his drink, and stealing Sh1.7 million from his bank account.

24-year-old Beatrice Mueni Mbiu had been on the run since September 8 when the incident occurred at a night club in Nyali, Kwale County.

“She took off alongside her two accomplices but we got her,” a DCI detective told Capital FM News, “she will be charged on Monday even as we seek the other two.”

The detective said the suspect had been positively identified by the victim.

According to police, the woman first spiked the man’s drink then stole his phone which she used to transfer Sh1.7 million from his bank account.

Detectives said they relied on the club’s CCTV images and footage to identify and trace the suspect.

Drink-spiking is common in night clubs frequented by commercial sex workers in major towns including Nairobi and Mombasa where they target both locals and foreigners.

Africa is filled with amazing talents, that goes without much debates.

A video of a young boy has added to the repositories of Africans whose works have found visibility online.

In the clip, the young boy showcased the contraption he made with carton boxes.

When asked what it is, the boy said it an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM).

He demonstrated how it works as new naira notes dashed out of a hole to the floor.

On one hand, he held what looked like the battery that powered the machine.

His creation became known months after yet another Nigerian kid did something similar but with a different body design that mimics the real ATM.

Meanwhile, TUKO.co.ke earlier reported how a 14-year-old Nigerian boy, named Praise Kelechi, showed off his improvisational skill of using cartons to create robots and other superhero costumes.

In an interview with BBC, the boy, while, displaying the Iron Man suit replica he made, said he was worked on it before the lockdown but had more time to perfect it as school was on a forced holiday.

He gave this piece of advice:

“I want to tell the world that no matter how rich or poor you may be, you can still be whatever you want to be and do whatever you want. It does not matter the resources available or not, you can just be who you are.”

A man in Nairobi has married himself in an extravagant and unique ceremony after his fiancée broke up with him. Johnson Mathews and his fiancée, Nelly Burare got engaged in November last year and they were scheduled to get married this month.

However, Nelly decided to call off the relationship after a series of arguments over unverified cheating allegations. While such a situation would typically mean the cancellation of the planned wedding party, Johnson decided he would go ahead with the wedding as planned.

The 33-year-old decided to marry himself instead. He hosted a fancy wedding party on November, 17 at a luxury resort in the outskirts of Nairobi. Only 50, people attended the unusual ceremony but Johnson described it as one of the happiest days of his life.

“Today is one of the happiest days of my life since I am with the people I love the most in this life, celebrating what could have been a tragedy, but I turned it into some sort of comedy comedy,” he said. He thanked all the people whose support helped him overcome a low phase of his life.

One of his close friends adviced him to contact herbalist Wema Kamaliza, a relationship expert to help him reconcile with his fiancee if he was not ready to let it go. “I love Nelly so much and since she said it was over, to be honest, my life changed, it became a nightmare,” he said.
