Three years ago, as Catholic faithful prepare for Lent-the religious observation of simple living, fasting and prayers-many were also silently praying for retired Archbishop Raphael Ndingi Mwana a’Nzeki who was struggling with poor health and old age.

Catholics observe the 40-day Lent period which ushers in Easter, the most solemn holiday in the Christian calendar. Archbishop Ndingi would have taken an active role in Lent, but then aged 86, he was either on the wheelchair or in bed. He suffered memory and speech lapses.

Though weak in body, but strong in faith, the octogenarian routinely had visitors into his home most of them Catholic faithful and neighbours. Visiting hours were strictly between 10 am to lunch hour.

Most of the visitations were dedicated to prayers and soothing hymns. Occasionally during such moments, Ndingi was usually jolted into faint motion as he struggles to connect with his guests.

Sometimes a feeble smile flashed across his face. He had lost the ability to talk but could still afford a mumble, intermittently pausing to utter phrases like “thank you”, “I know you” or “I am very happy”.

Sister Teresia took care of the retired archbishop and those who have visited the house say Sister Teresia’s ensured Ndingi was comfortable.

“She cleans and feeds the Archbishop as he can no longer do any task for himself,” said a source at the time.

Apart from Sister Teresia, two priests prayed for him in the morning and evening. His successor, His Eminence John Cardinal Njue-who prefers driving himself- occasionally visited Ndingi.

At the height of his active life, Ndingi was a leading voice on matters democracy, constantly pinpointing failures of leadership during the Kanu regime. He never tired from reminding Kenyans the importance of participating in the democratization through elections, lobbying or civil activism.

When the man of God was hale and hearty, he loved afternoon swims at his five bed-room Luna Gardens home in Lavington.

Ndingi fell sick after retiring. He started experiencing gradually memory loss before the problem escalated to the current state.

Those who visited him said he is a strong-willed character despite his failing health, which sometimes required check-ups at a Catholic-run hospital in Nairobi.

RIP Ndingi.

A woman has been arrested in the Kenyan coast after spiking his drink, and stealing Sh1.7 million from his bank account.

24-year-old Beatrice Mueni Mbiu had been on the run since September 8 when the incident occurred at a night club in Nyali, Kwale County.

“She took off alongside her two accomplices but we got her,” a DCI detective told Capital FM News, “she will be charged on Monday even as we seek the other two.”

The detective said the suspect had been positively identified by the victim.

According to police, the woman first spiked the man’s drink then stole his phone which she used to transfer Sh1.7 million from his bank account.

Detectives said they relied on the club’s CCTV images and footage to identify and trace the suspect.

Drink-spiking is common in night clubs frequented by commercial sex workers in major towns including Nairobi and Mombasa where they target both locals and foreigners.

Africa is filled with amazing talents, that goes without much debates.

There have been instances where young people have demonstrated unmatchable skills like a Nigerian man who used pencils to create an amazing 3D drawing.

A video of a young boy has added to the repositories of Africans whose works have found visibility online.

In the clip, the young boy showcased the contraption he made with carton boxes.

When asked what it is, the boy said it an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM).

He demonstrated how it works as new naira notes dashed out of a hole to the floor.

On one hand, he held what looked like the battery that powered the machine.

His creation became known months after yet another Nigerian kid did something similar but with a different body design that mimics the real ATM.

Meanwhile, TUKO.co.ke earlier reported how a 14-year-old Nigerian boy, named Praise Kelechi, showed off his improvisational skill of using cartons to create robots and other superhero costumes.

In an interview with BBC, the boy, while, displaying the Iron Man suit replica he made, said he was worked on it before the lockdown but had more time to perfect it as school was on a forced holiday.

He gave this piece of advice:

“I want to tell the world that no matter how rich or poor you may be, you can still be whatever you want to be and do whatever you want. It does not matter the resources available or not, you can just be who you are.”

In this world, there are different types of people who have varied tastes in nearly everything.

While there are people who would splash a lot of money and emotions on cars and other gadgets, some invest the same in pets, why? I do not know.

Well, pet lovers will tell you they love whatever creatures they are taming because they give them protection and reciprocate the love they send their way.

Popular Big Bang Theory actress Kaley Cuoco is among the many people across the globe whose love for pets, specifically dogs is out of this world.

Kaley, being a pet lover adopted a dog a couple of months ago and which she had been living with together with her boo for some time.

The actress and her hubby Karl Cook loved the rescue dog which they named Petunia so much and could do almost anything for it.

However, Petunia made the couple a sad pair after dying, unannounced, in a move that really broke the two.

Hurt by the news the couple took to their respective Instagram account to announced their loss and mourn their rescue dog, Petunia.

Taking to her page, Kaley shared a lovely photo of their late dog followed by a short but touching post.

“We love you dear special Petunia! You are the reason we continue to save dogs just like you. And we will never stop.” Kaley wrote.

Her message was echoed by her bae Cook, 29, who jotted a long emotional post dedicated to Petunia.

”After a life of untold loneliness and hardship she is at rest. For that I am happy. We did what we adopted petunia to do better than anyone else, give her everything. She is resting at peace, with every day’s sunset to warm her. That is what matters most. Petunia it is not the amount of time together, but it’s affects on the soul. You affected everyone who met you. You’re forever my old lady I miss you so much already, sleep my sweet angel❤️❤️❤️,” he wrote.

Following their loss, their fans camped on their respective social media pages to condole with them.

The actress and her hubby adopted the late Petunia from Paws For Life K9 Rescue, which as a California organisation that rescues dogs from shelters.

The organisation then trains some of the dogs to become therapy dogs.
