Untraceable Sakaja: How top civil servant helped Sakaja escape arrest

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja (pictured) gave police the slip on Saturday night by holing up at the home of a senior civil servant in Karen to evade arrest.

The senator was being sought to record a statement on claims of incitement and breaking curfew after his arrest in a Nairobi club late on Friday night.

This after he was granted police bond on Saturday morning and asked to return later in the day for processing ahead of arraignment. When Sakaja failed to show up at the Kilimani Police Station, police said they tried to call him, but his phone was switched off. Detectives visited his house along Dennis Pritt Road where they found his car parked and his mobile phone in the house.

It appeared that he had been whisked away to safety. Police camped at the senator’s house until late in the evening as they pursued other means of tracking Sakaja.

Sources said when the top government official realised police were closing in on his home, he ordered them to stand down until today or tomorrow.

The officers, however, insisted that the senator should go to the station and complete the process of his release.

Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo said Sakaja was supposed to record a statement regarding the incident at Ladies’ Lounge in Kilimani.

“He agreed to come back and complete this process, but now he cannot be reached. We still want him here,” Ndolo said.

Another officer said Sakaja was likely to be charged.

Lawyer Cliff Ombeta said he was representing two employees of Ladies’ Lounge who were being held by police.

“Two women who work only during the day at the lounge are still in custody at Kilimani. They cannot be released because Sakaja cannot be found.

Gone missing

“The senator has gone missing. He is required to report back at the station to be processed for court. Other innocent persons have been arrested as collateral so that he appears,” said Mr Ombeta. Our efforts to get a comment from Sakaja on his arrest proved futile.

We also wanted him to confirm whether he was the individual seen in a video that circulated widely on social media asking for his mobile phone in a police cell.

The senator was arrested at a bar after a confrontation with police who had been called following complaints that there were revellers inside the premises after curfew hours. Sakaja was also accused of inciting some of those present to defy police orders to leave the bar.

He also allegedly threatened to have all police officers at Kilimani transferred within 24 hours.

He later denied being in custody. “Never been arrested. Won’t be. Show me an OB Number,” he tweeted. Sakaja, ironically, chairs a senate ad hoc committee on Covid-19 that collected views on the Pandemic Response and Management Bill, 2020.

The committee was mandated to oversight actions and measures taken by the national and county governments in addressing the spread and effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

This after a countrywide curfew was extended, but the hours changed to 9pm-4am in efforts to contain the spread of the pandemic. Bars were also restricted from operating. Police said they got a tip-off that a bar was still operating at around 1.10am. Officers who responded to the call found Sakaja and 10 other people outside, drinking.

The senator was advised to leave but he declined, prompting the police team leader to call her bosses who also failed to convince the lawmaker to depart, police and witnesses said. Kilimani deputy commander Adan Hassan was dispatched to the bar where six people present left, leaving Sakaja and three others. The three, however, refused to give their names for processing, police said.

Beautiful Anita Nderu leaves Team Mafisi confused after declaring that she is a member of LGBTQ Community

Kenyan media personality Anita Nderu has sparked mixed reactions online after announcing she is a member of the LGBTQ community.

Nderu, a former presenter at Capital FM, revealed this through a post on her Twitter page on Thursday, saying she hopes her kids will not be subjected to what she has gone through for being LGBTQ.

“I hope my kids never have to go through what I have gone through for being LGBTQ+,” Anita wrote.

Her announcement comes weeks after she came under heavy criticism from social media users for hosting two gay men on her YouTube show. Anita later defended her show, saying her guests were only friends who decided to show their real selves.

In July this year, Nderu said she would not apologise for hosting members of the LGBTQ community on her cooking show, ‘The overdressed cook’.

The video, which was meant for viewers over the age of 18, caught the attention of many, which led to her trending for days.

Speaking to Massawe on Radio Jambo, Anita said she respects people’s opinions but she will not apologise.

She said she has always been open about different things happening around, and so this being pride month, she decided to invite some of her friends on the show.

“I simply asked my friends to come on my web show and be themselves. What any of us have chosen to do on the show is how each of us is. Nothing about my show is scripted. What you see from the guests, food to outcome is what actually genuinely took place,” she said.

Anita has not been secretive about being a staunch supporter of Kenyan lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) persons.

“As people, we should celebrate our differences, encourage authenticity & wonder at the diversity of humanity. We all have a right to love and be loved. Have an amazing day,” she added.

Here is why people think I am gay, Kenyan woman opens up

The Kenyan woman had been rumored to be a lesbian for a long time but no one was quite sure whether that was indeed true.

Not that being gay ia an unusual or a new thing. However, a lot of eyebrows are still being raised when it comes to the issue perhaps because homosexuality is considered an illegal activity in Kenya

Sometime in October 2017 Patricia Kihoro was rumored to have been caught pants down in a lesbian threesome with some other Kenyan women.

But now the Popular Vlogger, actress and singer says her efforts to keep her love life private was the sole reason that led to speculations that she was lesbian.

At the time, it was reported that Kihoro was in a relationship with a well-known female Kenyan rapper and as well as another female media personality.

But the 34-year-old says she has always dated men but kept her relationships low key, which explains why people started speculating she was playing for the other ‘team’.

“For the longest time, I was dating men. If you go through my Instagram over the years I didn’t even hide. I would post people but it wasn’t like lovey-dovey stuff, if you were keen you would see who I was dating at the time. I would post them in the context that this is somebody in my life but I wouldn’t reveal in what way they are in my life. I think of how private I kept that side of my life, people then speculate, start to make up things,” Kihoro said.

Kihoro shot into the limelight back in 2009 when she took part in the singing competition Tusker Project Fame 3 where she was among the finalists.

She later landed a job as a presenter for Homeboyz Radio and also ventured into acting. Over the years she has also been a very active YouTube vlogger and brand influencer.

“I have been accused of being a lesbian but first of all, it is not an accusation, because calling me a lesbian is not an insult as I have met wonderful human beings who are homosexual and are far better than people who have stood in certain standards of judging others.

So that is why I never speak about it. I am who I am, you know! I know what I stand for and my family knows what I stand for,” said Patricia.

Patricia further revealed that her mother has been very supportive of her work and opinion. She reveals that her first interaction with gay people was courtesy of her mother.

“My mother has supported my work from the start and she always respects my opinion. The first people I ever met who were openly gay were friends of my mum. I was probably 16 years and she didn’t make a big deal about it, and therefore I also did not learn that was a big deal,” revealed Patricia.
