Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has differed with Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) budget on the impending referendum budget after it claimed that it will cost taxpayers nearly Ksh. 14 billion.

Speaking from Chungwa House, Edwin Sifuna claimed that IEBC’s projected budget was exaggerated adding that it was a way of trying to embezzle public funds.

He further added that if the budget was looked into clearly, it should not be more than Ksh. 2 billion.

“The Chickengate scandal has already taught us that what seems like overshooting the budget and wanton wastage is in fact clear manifestation of theft. We are certain that if we left the chicken out of the IEBC’s so-called budget we can deliver a referendum at a cost of no more than Sh2 billion,” Sifuna stated.

On Thursday 29 October, ODM party leader Raila Odinga issued a statement breaking down the cost of the referendum.

He stated that among countries with an established tradition of holding regular elections, the cost per voter ranges from approximately $1 to $2.

He pointed out that there is absolutely no excuse why Kenya, with a long history of holding elections, should pay more.

“In a country with government institutions including police stations, schools, national and county government offices, and government vehicles in every corner in addition to a fairly well-developed transport infrastructure, we should be able to conduct a one ballot referendum at no more than Ksh. 2 billion for 20 million voters,” Raila stated.

Raila pointed out that the commission needs to be overhauled alleging that the reasoning alludes to schemes to rip off the country during elections.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati responded to Raila Odinga’s breakdown stating that his statement was very unfortunate, lacking objectivity and lacking understanding in the conduct of elections.

Responding to the Chebukati’s statement on Raila, Sifuna noted that his sentiments were laughable because they come from misrepresented logic.

A woman has been arrested in the Kenyan coast after spiking his drink, and stealing Sh1.7 million from his bank account.

24-year-old Beatrice Mueni Mbiu had been on the run since September 8 when the incident occurred at a night club in Nyali, Kwale County.

“She took off alongside her two accomplices but we got her,” a DCI detective told Capital FM News, “she will be charged on Monday even as we seek the other two.”

The detective said the suspect had been positively identified by the victim.

According to police, the woman first spiked the man’s drink then stole his phone which she used to transfer Sh1.7 million from his bank account.

Detectives said they relied on the club’s CCTV images and footage to identify and trace the suspect.

Drink-spiking is common in night clubs frequented by commercial sex workers in major towns including Nairobi and Mombasa where they target both locals and foreigners.

Africa is filled with amazing talents, that goes without much debates.

There have been instances where young people have demonstrated unmatchable skills like a Nigerian man who used pencils to create an amazing 3D drawing.

A video of a young boy has added to the repositories of Africans whose works have found visibility online.

In the clip, the young boy showcased the contraption he made with carton boxes.

When asked what it is, the boy said it an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM).

He demonstrated how it works as new naira notes dashed out of a hole to the floor.

On one hand, he held what looked like the battery that powered the machine.

His creation became known months after yet another Nigerian kid did something similar but with a different body design that mimics the real ATM.

Meanwhile, TUKO.co.ke earlier reported how a 14-year-old Nigerian boy, named Praise Kelechi, showed off his improvisational skill of using cartons to create robots and other superhero costumes.

In an interview with BBC, the boy, while, displaying the Iron Man suit replica he made, said he was worked on it before the lockdown but had more time to perfect it as school was on a forced holiday.

He gave this piece of advice:

“I want to tell the world that no matter how rich or poor you may be, you can still be whatever you want to be and do whatever you want. It does not matter the resources available or not, you can just be who you are.”

A man in Nairobi has married himself in an extravagant and unique ceremony after his fiancée broke up with him. Johnson Mathews and his fiancée, Nelly Burare got engaged in November last year and they were scheduled to get married this month.

However, Nelly decided to call off the relationship after a series of arguments over unverified cheating allegations. While such a situation would typically mean the cancellation of the planned wedding party, Johnson decided he would go ahead with the wedding as planned.

The 33-year-old decided to marry himself instead. He hosted a fancy wedding party on November, 17 at a luxury resort in the outskirts of Nairobi. Only 50, people attended the unusual ceremony but Johnson described it as one of the happiest days of his life.

“Today is one of the happiest days of my life since I am with the people I love the most in this life, celebrating what could have been a tragedy, but I turned it into some sort of comedy comedy,” he said. He thanked all the people whose support helped him overcome a low phase of his life.

One of his close friends adviced him to contact herbalist Wema Kamaliza, a relationship expert to help him reconcile with his fiancee if he was not ready to let it go. “I love Nelly so much and since she said it was over, to be honest, my life changed, it became a nightmare,” he said.

Five days after he contacted the herbalist Nelly contacted him for a possible reconciliation, they sorted out their problems and the two have since fixed another date for their wedding.
