Business Stalls at City Hall over Power Outage

Businesses at the Nairobi City County Government were put on hold following a power outage following power disconnection as a result of the nonpayment of electricity bills to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company.

This comes barely a day after the demonstration of county workers over the delay of salary payment to the county.

“The entire Nairobi City Hall, City Hall Annex, Nairobi County Hospital will experience darkness after Kenya Power Cut off Electricity following numerous nonpayments of Electricity Bills. Just Yesterday Nairobi County Workers Union Locked both Finance Departments accusing Senior Officers of not paying Salaries on time as well as NHIF, NSSF, and NACICO Loans. Nairobi Workers are suffering as County Chief, and relevant County Executive Committee member for finance (CEC) Allan Igambi together with the Chief Officer Finance Mohamed Sahal have all gone Absent without Leave,” read a statement by the workers union.

The county is expected to experience a delay in services for an unknown duration due to blackout.
