A caretaker who stole Sh1.5 million from a church is being sought by police.

The caretaker broke in the church and made away with the money that had been raised on Sunday at the Kangemi’s ACK All Saints Mountain View Church.

The church had kept the money there overnight.

The incident had shocked both the clergy and the churchgoers. They had contributed the money for the church’s development but it vanished from a drawer by the altar.

On Monday, church elder John Wainanina and treasurer Elizabeth Njoki went to the church to collect the money. To their shock, they found the doors ajar, which was unusual.

A closer look at the Lord’s table where bread and wine are consecrated, they were shocked to find it ransacked and the money kept in a drawer beneath the altar missing.

The custodian of the church, who has since vanished, was found to be guilty for the loss, according to the police.

He is accused of having interfered with the electrical system of the church to turn off the installed CCTV system before stealing the offerings from the congregation.
