The Presidential Debates Secretariat has confirmed that the 2022 presidential debate will take place at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) on Tuesday, July 26.
The secretariat also hinted that the deputy presidential debate would take place on Tuesday, July 19, in a statement on Monday.
“We are delighted to confirm to the country that those preparations are now in their final leg and today we are announcing key details about the debates which will all take place in the month of July,” read part of the statement by the presidential debate secretariat.
The secretariat revealed that in addition to the deputies and presidential debates, a gubernatorial debate for Nairobi County will take place on Monday, July 11.
The Nairobi gubernatorial debate will be held in two tiers, with the first featuring candidates with popularity ratings below 5% in three recent polls and the second featuring candidates with popularity ratings above 5% in the same polls.
Serfine Achieng’ Ouma of Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and Ayub Abdikadir of K24 will moderate the candidates whose support stands below 5% in the opinion polls.
Mark Masai of NTV and Zubeida Koome of KTN News will moderate those who are over 5% popularity.
Waihiga Mwaura of Citizen TV will moderate the panels for both debates.
The secretariat has stated that the debates would start at 5 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. at the Karen-based institution.
