George Gacheru Kinuthia, 47 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 11th, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. George fought a good fight and maintained dignity throughout his battle with cholangiocarcinoma.
George was born in Nairobi, Kenya. After graduating high school, he earned his associate degree from Quinsigamond Community College as a radiology technician. While obtaining his degree, George worked for UMass Medical Center in the filing department. Upon graduating, George worked at Marlborough Hospital as a radiology technician in diagnostic imaging until 2009. He later transferred back to UMass Medical Center: University Campus where he worked for a total of 21 years and most recently in intervention radiology until his passing.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Irene W. Kimani; a daughter, Arianna Wanja Gacheru; a bonus-son, Myles-Alvin M. Mwangi and a bonus-daughter, Maya-Rakel N. Mwangi all of Worcester; his mother, Lucy Wanja (Karagu) Kinuthia of Kenya; two sisters, Miriam Wangari of Worcester, and Petronila Wachu of Kenya; two brothers, Julius Karagu of Florida, and David Bachi of Kenya; many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and colleagues. He is predeceased by his father, Joseph Kinuthia Gacheru.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, February 19th from 5-6:30 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester and again on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 10-10:30 am with his funeral service to begin immediately at 10.30 am at the Living Word Church of Worcester, 30 Tyler Prentice Road, Worcester. Burial will follow in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester.
