Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are looking into the death of a 23-year-old student at Nairobi Technical Training who reportedly jumped from a Kasarani building’s rooftop.
On Friday, March 10, 2023, Blair Muthomi is claimed to have died by suicide after falling from a six-story building in Kasarani’s Mwiki neighborhood.
Muthomi reportedly fell several feet from his apartment building’s rooftop before landing head-first in a construction site’s ditch during the incident.
His housemates, who found his body, claim that soon after the fall, he called the police, who arrived at the scene right away.
Speaking to NTV, James Macharia a foreman of the construction site where Muthomi fell said he was going to open the gate for workers to move materials to the rooftop of the building when one of Muthomi’s roommates followed him and looked concerned.
“Niliona kijana akinifuata akijaribu kuniongelesha lakini mimi sikuskia vile alikua anasema, wakati aliona sikua naskia alirudi nyuma akapiga kona, wakati niliona amepiga nilimfuata. Kumfuata ndipo nilimpata ana angalia mwili wa Muthomi, alikua anamshikashika mkono na tumbo,” said Macharia.
Since then, the authorities have detained and arrested Muthomi’s roommates as potential witnesses in the case.
The engineering student passed away from injuries to the abdomen and chest that were compatible with a fall, according to pathologists.
The deceased had a bright future ahead of him and was due to finish in a few weeks. His family described him as a modest, hardworking kid with promising future.
