Around 30 families are counting their losses in Majimbo village, Embu County, following a fire that burned their homes on Thursday night.
Despite having a fire station 300 meters from the residences, furious neighbors accused the Embu County government fire brigade of carelessness for failing to put out the fire.
No one was hurt, according to Julius Kyumbure, the commander of the Embu West Sub-county Police, who also noted that investigations had been opened to determine the source of the fire.
Only seven of the 14 impacted structures, he pointed out, were entirely destroyed by the fire.
Sammy Mugo, the chief of Kamiu, made an appeal to well-wishers to help the impacted family, who he said would be housed at his office for the night.
In order to ensure that gas cylinders and electrical connections are secure, he also suggested that residents take care when leaving their houses.
