Police Constable William Kirimi Kithure’s family has refuted claims that they abandoned him in death.
Kithure was one of 11 police officers killed in a bandit attack in Turkana County.
The family argues that social media videos showing GSU officers acting as poll bearers and traveling great distances without seeing any civilians do not prove that they were not present for Kithure’s burial.
Family members claim that they followed police protocol and that they had to exit the police lorry owing to inadequate infrastructure in order to complete the entire distance on foot while carrying the body shoulder high.
They also claim mourners who were not captured in the clips were waiting at the top of the hilly village of Nkinyang’a, Igembe Central, Meru County to bury the officer.
