There was a fire incident at Kisumu Boys High School on Sunday September 17 and firefighters were on the scene putting out the flames.
Thankfully, no casualties have been indicated as of yet.
Investigations are still ongoing to determine the precise cause of the incident and the degree of property damage.
This incident happened shortly after the nearby Kisumu Girls High School was shut down indefinitely owing to recent student unrest.
A dormitory and a storage space were destroyed by the fire at the boys’ school. Witnesses stated that the fire started at 7 o’clock in the evening as students were working on their evening studies.
Hussein Alaso, the Kisumu County Commissioner, acknowledged that the fire originated in one of the facility’s storage spaces, which was largely used to store mattresses.
He reassured the public that all students were safe and mentioned that security personnel and firefighters had successfully contained the fire.
“As of now, there have been no reported casualties, and we can confirm that all students have been located and are safe,” Hussein affirmed.
He also noted, “We are currently unable to determine the cause of the fire. Our investigative teams are on-site and working to uncover the circumstances that led to the incident.”
Questions regarding whether the closure of Kisumu Girls High School and the fire at the neighboring school are related remain unanswered.
