William Oeri , a veteran photojournalist is dead.
Oeri died in a road accident on Sunday after his vehicle collided head-on with a lorry that burst into flames, according to police.
Police said Oeri was driving a station wagon Toyota Wish vehicle when it collided with a lorry at Kitini area on the Sagana-Kenol road at 3pm and died on impact.
“Due to impact, the Toyota Wish burst into flames but members of the public used sand to put off the fire,” a police report reads in part.
Police said he was driving on the wrong side of the road when the collision occurred.
The lorry driver and his passenger escaped with minor injuries, but Oeri was trapped in the mangled wreckage that burst into flames.
He was not immediately identified until Tuesday when his family identified his body at the mortuary.
Oeri worked at Nation Media Group’s Daily Nation as a deputy photo editor for several years.
He left Nation and was working with the People Daily newspaper until his death.
