US based Kenyan actress and model Christine Wawira Njagi has revealed that she is limited in the time she has with her children due to custody issues.
“I miss them very much and miss the days when I could see them all the time, “ says the actress who is currently divorced.
Ms Njagi says she battled guilt and shame when she got pregnant with her first child. Being a daughter of a pastor and getting pregnant out of wedlock, she says brought a lot of judgement to her family.
“I decided to keep the baby despite the shame it brought to my family at the time. She is now tall as me and a teenager.”
The 35-year-old actress also revealed how attempting to change her Kenyan name was met with unexpected response.
She felt her name was hard to pronounce and hence she embarked on looking for a new name. She settled for Arabic name Naila and the second name Pierce from her favorite actor Pierce Brosnan.
But when she moved to Los Angeles, she interacted with an Indian and she told him she was from Kenya and Kenyans really loved Indian cusines like chapati and samosas. He was surprised that her name was not Kenyan and advised her to keep her name.
“He told me one day people from my country would see my name and be so proud of me and support me, that I needed to be authentic and true to myself, ” “ well, I embarked on reversing the name immediately, it took me few months and I am glad I did it.”
