According to Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o, the leader of the Azimio party Raila Odinga promised him a job in his administration in order for him to withdraw from the race for Lang’ata MP.
Speaking on Thursday, Jalang’o claimed that this was the result of their failure to agree on a single candidate to run for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
He described how, if Raila won the presidential election in August 2022, an elders’ meeting was afterwards summoned and he was given the prospect of a communications position at the presidential press.
The legislator said he stood his ground and insisted on facing his opponents in the nominations.
He said it was because he was confident of the ground he had covered campaigning for the ticket.
“Kwanza tulitumwa twende consensus tusikizane tuwape mtu mmoja ikakataa. Kukaitwa mkutano mkubwa sana wa wazee ilikumpatia ule mwingine ticket nikaambiwa wameamua yule ndio atapewa na Baba (Raila) amesema ni huyo. Wewe umepangiwa Baba akiingia utapewa kazi ya communication kwa Presidential press kwa sababu uko na tajriba katika utangazaji. Baba anaingia.
“Nikasema hio siiamini sana nataka hii. Tupelekeni nominations wananchi waamue kwa sababu nilikuwa najua campaign nimepiga,” Jalang’o said on Radio 47.
Jalang’o was speaking for the first time on how he navigated the stormy nominations of the Orange party.
