On Saturday, Ida Odinga criticized the South Gem Ward electorate in Siaya County for choosing a candidate she claimed had disrespected her husband, Raila Odinga.
Ida criticized the South Gem Ward MCA-elect Brian Chieng’ Anyango Obiero alias Otuom Polo for his statements in his winning speech last Thursday while she was addressing in Ruma in Rarieda.
At the Kambare Polling station, there had been violent clashes between Otuom Polo’s supporters and those of Polycarp Wanga, the ODM party candidate.
A car in Wanga’s entourage was pelted with stones before falling into a ditch, injuring all five occupants.
They are recuperating at the Bondo Sub County Hospital.
“You are elected and your first speech is insult and chest-thumping. You call Raila a traitor. A 30-something-year-old… what do you know,” Ida said in reference to Otuom Polo.
She continued: “That (governor James) Orengo must now work with me. (Governor Anyang’) Nyongo must now listen to me!”
Ida asked youth to show respect towards older people and to be calm.
She continued by saying that Otuom Polo’s disdain for them and other people should be remembered by the residents of South Gem.
