Mercy Kiiru Wanjau, the nominee for CS has stated that she is prepared to adjust to the new income of a cabinet secretary, which is less than what she presently gets.
Wanjau, who testified before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments on Saturday, said she views the situation as a test and a chance to develop while working on a different docket.
She said: “I have been in public service for all these years and this indeed represents a growth opportunity for me over the years and given the kind of investments that we have made as a family, I’m able to make adjustments in order to take this role.”
Wanjau was responding to a query from Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa regarding her willingness to accept a pay reduction while many other people are requesting raises.
Wanjau’s annual salary is around Sh1.5 million, although the Salaries and Remuneration Commission’s most recent gazette notice states that the CSs will make Sh924,000 (SRC).
