Following his appointment by President William Ruto on Friday, John Lonyangapuo, the former governor of West Pokot County and head of the Kenya Union Party (KUP), is the newest recipient of lucrative State positions.
He has been given a nine-month term as head of the North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (NRVWDA) by President Ruto.
David Chumba Chemweno’s nomination, according to President Ruto, has been canceled.
Prof. Lonyangapuo was one of Dr. Ruto’s most vociferous detractors prior to the August 2022 General Election, backing Raila Odinga of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya on behalf of his party. However, after the Kenya Kwanza Alliance (KKA) assumed power, he changed his position.
Recently, the previous governor declared that KUP and Azimio were no longer associated.
Since then, the party has affirmed its backing for President Ruto’s government.
The alliance has been dubbed as the “greatest threat to democracy, the rule of law, and national cohesion in our nation’s recent history,” according to Prof. Lonyangapuo, who also accused Azimio of making decisions that are made unilaterally and do not reflect the opinions of all partner parties.
The party’s secretary-general, David Pkosing of Pokot South, differed.
Simon Kachapin, a supporter of President Ruto who ran for governor under the United Democratic Alliance, defeated Prof. Lonyangapuo, who was defending the position on a KUP platform. (UDA). The latter received 86,476 ballots compared to 84,610 for the former.
Brown Ondego and Odoyo Owidi’s appointments by the chief of state also included recent ones.
The Gazette notice dated March 10 stated that Mr. Ondego, the former managing director of the Kenya Ports Authority, will head the board of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority for three years beginning on March 10.
From March 10 to June 4, 2023, Mr. Owidi, a previous chair of the Lake Basin Development Authority board, will preside over the board of the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency. President Ruto declared that Daniel’s visa had been cancelled.
