The High Court has been informed by murder suspect Joseph Irungu, often known as Jowie, that he never knew the late businesswoman Monica Kimani.
Jowie also claimed that on the night of her murder, he did not go to her Lamuria Gardens apartment in the city.
Jowie testified before Justice Grace Nzioka that he was at his residence in the Royal Park apartments in Lang’ata, Nairobi, on the night that the woman he is suspected of killing died.
“I never visited Monica at her residence and l never talked to her since l did not know her. I knew his brother George Kimani,” Jowie told the court.
The suspect added that witnesses cited by the prosecution, such as Lee Owen Omondi, had lied to the court about their presence with them at Monica’s house on the relevant night.
He added that he did not recognize the man in the courtroom footage of him eating Nyama choma with Monica.
A brown short that was presented in court as being owned by Jowie, who is charged alongside Maribe, was disowned by him as well.
“The short in court is khaki cream in color and the short he was wearing was brown and had no blood stains,” said jowie.
Jowie read the government chemist report while being cross-examined by state attorney Gikui Gichuhi. It showed that the blood spots on the short he was wearing belonged to Monica Kimani.
On the same evening of September 19, 2018, another woman named Chelegat observed Jowie and said that he was sporting a pair of brown khaki shorts.
That cloth was found by the police in Jackie Maribe’s home.
Jowie was dating a TV journalist named Maribe when Monica was killed.
She is also charged with the murder.
According to Jowie, George Kimani, the deceased’s brother, called him on September 21, 2023, asking for help in getting the word out about his sister’s terrible murder at Lamuria Gardens.
