The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) board has announced the resignation of Commissioner General Githii Mburu.In a statement issued on Thursday, the KRA board said Mr. Mburu had stepped down from the position “to pursue personal interests.”
Following Mburu’s resignation, the Board has appointed Advocate Rispah Simiyu to be the Acting KRA Commissioner General with effect from February 23, 2023, until the position is substantively and competitively filled.
“The Board appreciates Mr Mburu for the service he has rendered to KRA and the Republic of Kenya and wishes him very well in his future endeavours,” said KRA.
The agency describes Ms Simiyu as “a seasoned and grounded tax professional with over 19 years of experience”. Before joining KRA in 2018, she served as Regional Tax Manager East Africa at Standard Chartered Bank Kenya. She began her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 2001 and rose to the position of Tax Manager.
Mr Mburu was a long-time insider at KRA’s audit and intelligence units before he was appointed as KRA Commissioner-General in July 2019 for a three-year term. His term was extended for a further two years and was set to end in June next year.
