Kenya spoke out on the tensions between Ukraine and Russia.

Martin Kimani, Kenya’s permanent delegate to the United Nations, gave the speech.

“Kenya is gravely concerned by the announcement made by the Russian Federation to recognize Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine as independent states,” he stated.

“We further strongly condemn the trend in the last few decades of powerful states, including members of this Security Council, breaching International Law with little regard,” he added.

“Multilateralism lies on its deathbed tonight. It has been assaulted, as it has been by other powerful states in the recent past,” he remarked.

Ambassador Kimani urged all sovereign states to unite behind the Secretary General, urging him to mobilize the council to find a peaceful solution to the crisis.

“Let me conclude by reaffirming Kenya’s respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders,” his statement read.

As the possibility of war grows, western governments have spent weeks attempting to defuse heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
