Kenyans have been forewarned about dishonest individuals claiming to be able to assist them in winning the US Diversity Visa Program, also known as the Green Card lottery.

Although applications for the 2024 program are still being accepted, the US Embassy in Nairobi warned interested Kenyans to ignore anyone who tried to charge them to be included in the lottery on Wednesday.

“Registration for 2024 Diversity Visa Program is now open. Beware of fraudsters – there is NO fee to enter,” the Ambassador Meg Whitman-led office said in a statement on Twitter.

The Diversity Visa Program’s entry submission season began on October 5 and goes through November 8.

The DV program is administered by the US Department of State, and only online applications will be accepted.

“The entry form will only be available for submission during this period and this period only. Entries will NOT be accepted through the U.S. Postal Service,” the department says on its website.

The US Green Card is arguably the most sought-after immigrant visa in the world, but unfortunately very difficult to obtain.

The Green Card Lottery, makes up to 50,000 immigrant visas available annually, drawn from random selection among all entries to individuals who are from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States.
