A 30-year-old man has been detained after it was claimed that he killed his father with a knife in the Mukangu, Kirinyaga County.
The guy was flushed out of his hiding place in Nyandarua and brought back to Kirinyaga to face murder charges after fleeing after committing the crime last Thursday.
Detectives raided the suspect’s hiding place on Wednesday night in response to a tip, and took him into custody so they could interrogate him.
Kirinyaga West police boss Moses Koskei said the man committed a serious crime and he must face the law.
“We are treating the matter as murder and the suspect must be arraigned in court,” he said.
The attacker repeatedly stabbed Patrick Mutero, 65, in the chest and stomach before fleeing, according to the victim’s relatives. Mutero died as a result of his wounds immediately.
According to witnesses, Mutero and his son got into a fight for unspecified reasons.
After a heated argument, the attacker grabbed a kitchen knife and killed the elderly man.
“I responded to the distress call and found Mutero dead with stab wounds,” one of the family members, Mr Paul Mugo, said.
Mr. Mugo claimed that the elderly man was brutally murdered by his own legitimate son, who was living at home after quitting school.
Family members expressed their happiness at the suspect’s capture.
“Detectives have done a good job and we are now waiting to see the suspect charged in court,” another family member, Ms Agnes Wanjiru, said.
The family reported that their father had been stabbed ten times and thought the suspect had been using drugs when he conducted the crime.
Residents characterized the attacker as a dangerous man who had been randomly attacking locals.
“The suspect is always very hostile and everyone in the village feared him,” one of the residents said.
