Police in Nairobi are looking into a case where a patient is thought to have died by jumping from the seventh story of Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

The 22-year-old man had been a patient at the hospital before the incident happened on Thursday around 1am when other patients were asleep.

The ward 7B patient, who had just been admitted, jumped to the ground level and passed away instantly.

The patient was already dead when security staff at the hospital said they heard a thud on the ground level and went to investigate.

Police officers responded to the scene, processed it, moved the body to the mortuary, and then started looking into the event.

The hospital has not yet released a comment indicating how long the patient had been receiving care there.

Patients with contagious illnesses like malaria, HIV/AIDS, pneumonia, and tuberculosis are housed on the hospital’s seventh and eighth levels (TB).
