LIVE VIDEO: Helicopter crashes in Kenya, kills head of defense forces, 9 others

Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla has passed away in a tragic helicopter crash in Elgeyo Marakwet.

President William Ruto confirmed Ogolla’s death, stating, “Today at 2:20 pm, our nation suffered a tragic air accident at Sindar area, Kaben location, Tot division, in Elgeyo Marakwet County. I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of General Francis Omondi Ogolla, the Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces.”

Ogolla was confirmed dead alongside nine other military officers, including Brigadier Swale Saidi, Colonel Duncan Keittany, and others. The crash occurred on Thursday afternoon, and President Ruto expressed deep sadness over the loss.

Ruto said that Ogolla had left Nairobi in the morning to inspect school renovations in Elgeyo Marakwet. He had also visited Turkana and West Pokot before the crash, while en route to Uasin Gishu County. In honor of Ogolla’s memory, Ruto announced three days of national mourning, with flags flying at half-mast in Kenya and its missions abroad.
