On Sunday, a 35-year-old man was killed while attempting to protect his girlfriend from three armed thugs who were looting from her car.
The man and his girlfriend had spent their evening at the Ashaki grill in Thome Estate when the early-morning incident in Ruiru’s Winners apartments occurred.
They arrived to their flat in two separate cars about 4:30 am, unaware that they were being pursued by three attackers who then ambushed them.
“After the vehicles had gone past the main gate, three men forced their way inside, went straight to Winfred’s vehicle and began ransacking it,” Wafula, the apartment’s security guard, told detectives.
“As the deceased was parking his vehicle, he saw the thugs confronting Winfred and went to her aid, wielding a rungu,” he added.
The gunshot had already drawn the attention of police officers who were on patrol near the murder scene when the armed thugs opened fire and shot the victim in the abdomen before fleeing the area.
After hearing the fracas, the deceased’s neighbors swiftly responded and took him to RFH hospital in Ruiru.
Sigei passed away from the gunshot wounds to his abdomen at RFH Hospital, while he was receiving medical care.
Two 9mm expended cartridges were found on the spot by crime scene investigators from Thika.
“Investigations into the early morning murder have since been launched and detectives are following crucial leads to unravel the suspects behind the murder most foul,” stated the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
