Man pleads guilty to charges of stealing girlfriend’s Bible, pillow and phone

A man has admitted stealing and handling stolen goods after stealing a Bible, a pillow, a mat, and a phone from his girlfriend before the items were found in his home by the police.

In accordance with section 275 of the penal code and section 268 (1) of the penal code, Peter Otieno was accused of theft. On January 30, 2023, he is alleged to have stolen the items from Valentine Songore at her home in Nairobi’s Obama Estate, Njiru Sub County.

In addition, Mr. Otieno was accused of violating section 322(1) and (2) of the penal code by handling stolen property.

The accused person is accused of dishonestly retaining the items including in the course of stealing them after he was found with the said items at his house within the same estate.

He allegedly went to Ms. Songore’s home in the middle of the morning and made breakfast a demand. After receiving tea, he continued to whine. The suspect made a sex request, but it was declined.

The two then got into a fight, during which the accused called the complainant unprintable names and slapped her, sending the latter running for cover.

Later, she came back to the residence with a family member. They discovered Mr. Otieno had departed the house and the missing things. Mr. Otieno allegedly insulted the complainant when he was contacted by phone over the missing things.

The incident was reported by Ms. Songore to Obama Police Station. Two days later, once police discovered the stolen goods at Mr. Otieno’s home, he was taken into custody.

Before Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi of the Makadara Law Courts, Mr. Otieno pleaded guilty to the charges. After the stolen things are presented in court as exhibits, his case will be discussed on February 3, 2023, for sentencing considerations and potential mitigation.
