The former powerful Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i was informed by highly placed sources on Wednesday noon of his looming arrest,
Dr. Matiang’i, who had a good working relationship with the late President Uhuru Kenyatta, immediately alerted his legal staff to the circumstance and requested that they be alert.
It wasn’t until 10 PM that an elite squad with five vehicles showed up to his Karen home and demanded entry.
Since President William Ruto took office, Dr. Matiang’i has kept a quiet profile. However, the officers were unaware that Raila Odinga, the former prime minister, had already been notified of the situation by the former CS.
As the officers and Dr Matiang’i’s security team argued outside the compound, the lawyers arrived and were allowed inside the house.
According to an aide to the former CS who spoke on condition of anonymity, “This is something that we had already been told was going to happen but we did not know that they were planning to arrive at his home during the night.”
The officers, numbering over 20, could not access the compound, but some of the lawyers, led by Mr Danstan Omari, walked in and met with Dr Matiang’i.
