Oprah Winfrey’s father Vernon has passed away. The queen of daytime talk shared the sad news on her Instagram account on Saturday. This happened only a few days after her family was able to commemorate her father.

She continued by saying how honored she felt to have witnessed her father’s passing.

“Yesterday with family surrounding his bedside, I had the sacred honor witnessing the man responsible for my life, take his last breath. We could feel Peace enter the room at his passing,” Winfrey wrote in the post.

She added saying; “That Peace still abides. All is well. Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts.”

According to TMZ, Vernon, 88, who ran Winfrey Barber & Beauty Shop for more than 50 years, passed away on Friday night following a battle with cancer.

Earlier on in the week, Oprah Winfrey shared an Instagram post where the family had prepared a surpise “Vernon Winfrey Appreciation Day” backyard BBQ for his friends to honor him. In the video, her father believed it to be a Fourth of July celebration.

Vernon was a trustee for Tennessee State University and served for 16 years on the Metro Nashville Council.

Being one of the richest women in the world, Oprah Winfrey turned a Chicago television talk show into a media empire that includes movie production, magazines, cable TV, and satellite radio.
