Michael Joseph has given his reason for exit as Safaricom’s Board director.
Michael’s exit is effective August 1. He has left the company after serving in different capacities for over 23 years.
“The Board announces the resignation of Mr Michael Joseph as a Director in the Board of Safaricom PLC, effective August 1, 2023,” the notice reads.
“The Board takes this opportunity to thank Michael for his dedicated service, sound advice and commitment to Safaricom and wishes him the very best for the future.”
In a virtual interview from London with the business publication Business Daily, he said with the board having a new chairman, and new board members then this was a good time to step down.
“I am not really a good board material, I am a CEO type of person, I like being in charge,” Mr Joseph told the Business Daily.
“I am not the kind of person that likes to take direction or waits for guidance and as a director, I feel a little restrained.”
The 77-year-old has said he was freeing up time to concentrate on the firm’s Ethiopia subsidiary where he still holds the position of the board chair and an advisor to the Safaricom Ethiopia CEO.
