Members of the National Assembly and part of their staff have tested Covid-19 positive following routine random testing facilitated by the office of the Clerk of the National Assembly.
In a press statement sent to newsrooms, the Assembly’s Clerk, Michael Sialai, confirmed that the tests were run on the legislators and their staff after the House had convened for a Special Sitting.
The Special Sitting of the house was convened on December 21st and 22nd.
The Clerk of the National Assembly averred that MPs and their staff, whose results turned positive, have been advised to isolate and follow the set Covid-19 protocols and guidelines.
“Our medical team is conducting follow-ups to ensure and offer any necessary help to the affected members and staff,” the statement read in part.
The confirmation of the Covid-19 cases in Parliament comes in the backdrop of similar reports at the Ugandan National Assembly.
