On Sunday, November 6, a Form Four student at Mugoiri Girls High School in Murang’a is said to have drowned while on a field trip.

According to reports, the sad occurrence took place on Saturday, November 5, at a resort in Kirinyaga, where the girls had gone for a retreat known as a “steaming off session” before taking the final national exam.

The student, who was one of 380 other girls, perished under a waterfall as her classmates, teachers, and some of the parents who had joined them stood helplessly in the background.

Another girl nearly died trying to save the victim, almost making the tragedy even more terrible.

The school wrote the following message to the parents WhatsApp group: “Greetings from Our Lady of Consolata Mugoiri girls. We are well in the Lord. Our Form 4s attended our annual steaming-off session on Saturday, Novemebr5, 2022. Unfortunately, we regret to inform you that we lost one of our girls. Her mother was with her all through the journey. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Let’s all pray for the family during this sad moment.”
